Another National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR) Summit in the books, and I’m heading home recharged, inspired, and with plenty of ideas to bring back to the Phoenix Recovery Support Services team.
The NARR Summit is always an amazing experience. There is something incredibly valuable about being in a room with recovery residence operators from across the country, sharing experiences, learning what others are doing, connecting with vendors and partners, and having conversations about where our field is headed.
And the learning! I heard some amazing presenters this year. No matter how long we have been doing this work, there is always more to learn. I think that is one of the things I appreciate most about the Summit. I always leave with new information, new perspectives, and at least a few things I can’t wait to take back to my team.
This year was also special because I had the opportunity to present Medication-Inclusive Recovery Residences: Practical Policies, Risk Management, and Resident Choice alongside Sara Barkley of Fellowship Recovery Fellowship Recovery Community Organization and Erin Helms of The Woodrow Project/Briermost.
After all of the planning and conversations, it was wonderful to finally meet my co-presenters in person!
Our goal was not to tell operators that there is one “right” way to approach medication in recovery housing. Recovery residences look very different across the country. We wanted to share our experiences, talk candidly about the challenges, and offer practical ideas for supporting residents who take medication while maintaining accountability, community safety, and strong recovery residence practices.
I hope our fellow operators left the session with something useful to take back to their own organizations. I know I certainly left the Summit with plenty to bring back to mine.
Grateful for the connections, the conversations, the learning, and the opportunity to continue growing alongside people who care deeply about recovery housing.Until next year! đź’ś
