“They never stop talking at home… but at school, they won’t say a word.”

If this sounds familiar, your child may not be “just shy.” Selective mutism is an anxiety disorder, not stubbornness, defiance, or bad parenting.

Children with selective mutism want to speak, but in certain settings, their anxiety becomes so overwhelming that they freeze.

Some common signs include:
• Talking comfortably at home but not at school or in public
• Whispering, nodding, or pointing instead of speaking
• Avoiding eye contact
• Looking frozen in social situations

The good news? CBT treatment is highly effective, and with the right support, children can build confidence and begin finding their voice again.

🌱 Early intervention matters.

We’re more connected than ever… so why are so many people feeling alone?

Somewhere along the way, we lost the places where connection used to happen naturally: diners, coffee shops, libraries, parks, barbershops, community centers.

These spaces are called *third places* — not home, not work, but places where you could simply exist with other people.

And they mattered.

Third places created small moments of belonging: a familiar face, a quick conversation, a sense of routine. But as these spaces disappear, loneliness is rising too.

💙 The good news? Connection can still be rebuilt — slowly and intentionally.

Start small:
☕ Become a regular somewhere
📚 Join something recurring
📱 Put your phone away for one conversation
💬 Start with a smile, nod, or “hello”

✨ Swipe through to learn why third places matter for mental health.

What was your third place growing up? 💭

Starting anxiety medication can feel scary — and that fear makes sense. 💙

When anxiety is already making your brain question everything, it’s easy for medication fears to spiral:
“What if I change?”
“What if I get addicted?”
“What if I’m stuck on this forever?”

But fear isn’t always fact.

Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) are designed to help reduce anxiety and depression symptoms so you can feel more like yourself again. They are not considered addictive, many people use them temporarily, and side effects are often mild and improve with time.

Medication isn’t about “fixing” you. It’s one possible tool to support your nervous system while you heal.

✨ Swipe through to separate common medication fears from the facts.

If you’re considering therapy, medication, or both, our team is here to help you explore your options without pressure or judgment.

“My stomach hurts… I don’t want to go.” 💔➡️💙

For many kids, anxiety doesn’t show up as words, it shows up as feelings in their body.

School drop-offs become tears.
Lunchtime feels overwhelming.
Bedtime turns into a battle.

But what if those feelings aren’t danger… just a false alarm?

In this session, one of our therapists helped a child understand the difference between a real alarm (true danger) and a false alarm (your body trying to protect you when you’re actually safe).

That one shift changed everything.

✨ Fear became something they could name
✨ Anxiety became something they could navigate
✨ And walking into school alone became possible

This is the power of understanding anxiety, not fighting it, but learning how it works.

💙 If your child is struggling, support can make all the difference. Book a session with Light On Anxiety to help them build confidence and feel safe again.
