Today we're proud to take part in Friday, a national day of awareness to highlight how Americaโ€™s hospitals and health systems combat violence in their workplaces and communities.

Creating a safer space takes work. It means training staff on how to properly de-escalate tough situations, having clear safety protocols with your security team and supporting employees when something does happen.

Here at Hartgrove, we care about a culture where respect goes both ways. Safe behavioral healthcare workers means they can show up fully for their patients, and that's something we take very seriously.

Flashback to this regional business development team meeting where we connected, collaborated and learned with our friends from Riveredge Hospital, Streamwood Behavioral Healthcare System and Garfield Park Behavioral Hospital!

๐Ÿค We had great discussions about how to best serve our communities by expanding behavioral healthcare access to those that need it most. Shout-out to Riveredge for being a wonderful host!

Riveredge Hospital was proud to host the Chicagoland Business Development team for a collaborative training with our sister facilities - Hartgrove Behavioral Health System, Garfield Park Behavioral Hospital, and Streamwood Behavioral Healthcare System.

With new talent joining the Chicagoland team, this training focused on strengthening interactions, expanding our networking, and refining our messaging to maximize our community impact.

Grateful for the collaboration and excited to build on this momentum driving our business development efforts to the next level.

Tracy Stone, LCPC, ICDVP, clinical program director of the Schoolhouse Counseling Center, nailed it with this quote. ๐ŸŽฏ

And the cool part? Her team provides mental health support to students and their family members all year long! That's right ๐Ÿ‘‰ Schoolhouse Counseling Center services are offered throughout the summer even though students are out of school.

From individual therapy to family support and medication management, Tracy's team meets your child where they are and helps them stick with healthy routines and move forward with confidence.

๐ŸŒˆ Pride Month hits a little different for everyone. It's a celebration about being seen, feeling safe and knowing you belong exactly as you are.

We care a lot about providing culturally affirming behavioral healthcare here at Hartgrove Behavioral Health System. Spaces that feel truly welcoming matter (big time!), and we work hard to make sure anyone who walks through our doors feels respected and supported without having to explain or defend who they are.

No assumptions. No judgment. Just real support for LGBTQ+ patients when they need it most. Reach out if that's you or your loved one. ๐Ÿ’™

Yeah, it's like that here. ๐ŸŽฏ

Here's what a parent of a former Hartgrove patient said about our partial hospitalization program (PHP) team: "Staff members recognized us by name every morning when I dropped my daughter off to her care team."

That kind of detail matters. We care about knowing our patients, welcoming them every time and making sure they feel comfortable walking through our doors. ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Check out the medical team all decked out in green for Mental Health Awareness Month! ๐Ÿคฉ

These rockstars took a break from our Hospital Week celebrations a couple weeks back to pose for this group photo, and when we say WE CARE, this team is at the heart of what we mean. There's A LOT of inpatient psychiatric experience in this picture, and each team member shows up genuinely invested in the patients and families they care for.

They listen and stick with people through some really tough days. When you're a patient here, they want you to succeed, and they'll do everything they can to help make that happen.

When you or a loved one need help, these are the people you want on your side. And as Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we're so proud to have them caring for patients right here at Hartgrove. ๐Ÿ’™

Congratulations to Hartgrove Behavioral Health Systemโ€™s Nurse of the Year, Rebecca Tatgrin, RN! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ†

Shalini Pandiyan, director of nursing, announced the award during our Hospital Week celebration: "Every day, psychiatric nurses care for individuals experiencing some of the most vulnerable and difficult moments of their lives. It takes a truly special person to provide that care with consistency, professionalism and heart, and that's exactly what Rebecca does. She's a strong advocate for her patients, a dependable teammate and a calming presence during challenging situations."

Rebecca is an international nurse from Haiti, and we're proud to present her with this well-deserved recognition. You can tell by her reaction that it was a very special moment. ๐Ÿค—

The 5-4-3-2-1 method works by gently pulling your focus away from anxious thoughts and back into the present moment. Instead of staying stuck in the "what ifs," you give your brain real, concrete things to pay attention to right now.

When you engage your senses, you activate different areas of your brain ๐Ÿง , especially the parts responsible for awareness and regulation. This can help calm the amygdala (the brainโ€™s alarm system) and signal to your body that youโ€™re safe.

Take a breath. You got this. ๐Ÿ’ช

What are trauma triggers?

They can kind of come out of nowhere and make it feel like the past is happening all over again, even if the person is actually safe in the present.

Triggers can be anything tied to a memory or feeling from the past, like:

๐Ÿ‘‚ A sound (sirens, yelling, a certain song)
๐Ÿ‘ƒ A smell (perfume, smoke, hospital scents)
๐Ÿ  A place or environment
๐Ÿ“… A specific date or time of year
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Certain conversations or topics
๐Ÿ‘€ Even a look or facial expression

Learn more about how to deal with them in our blog. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Trauma triggers are a common experience for those who have experienced trauma in their lives. These triggers can be anything from a smell, a sound or a situation that reminds you of a traumatic event. They can cause intense emotional and physical reactions, making it difficult to cope with daily lif...
