FEEDING FRIDAY
Who doesn’t love snacks? Frequent snacking may lead your child to be less hungry for meals. Here are some tips to keep snacks a productive part of your child’s diet.
🥑 Structure the snack - Have “snack time” during the day, with a clear start and end. Have your child sit at the high chair or table for a snack rather than eat it while walking around and playing.
🥑 Serve at least 2 food groups - A snack consisting of 2 or more foods will help your child stay satisfied. Serve an apple and peanut butter, cheese and crackers, or cereal with milk rather than just 1 food. This is true for adults, too!
🥑 Try new foods - Snacks can be a great opportunity to offer a new food. It can take more than 20 experiences with a new food before a child will feel comfortable trying it. Use snacks to your advantage to get up to 20!

FEEDING FRIDAY
When introducing solids, it can be nerve-wracking to introduce “top allergen” foods to your baby. New research shows that you don’t need to delay trying these foods, and that early introduction of top allergens may even reduce the risk of developing food allergies. Here are some of our favorite baby-friendly ways to introduce eggs, peanuts, and dairy.
🍳 BAMBA puffs - These peanut butter puffs originated in Israel and are loved by babies and adults! You can now find them at most grocery stores. They’re usually in the chip aisle!
🍳 Peanut butter oatmeal - Mix a little peanut butter into baby’s oatmeal or rice cereal.
🍳 Omelets - Cook a plain omelet and slice it into strips or squares with a pizza cutter.
🍳Egg bites - Scramble an egg and bake it in a muffin tin.
🍳Yogurt and cheese - Full-fat yogurt and pasteurized cheese are safe to give babies before 12 months of age. Wait until your child is 1 year old before introducing cow’s milk.

FEEDING FRIDAY
What is a food jag? A food jag is when a child will only eat one food, or just a few foods, for a period of time. The best way to manage food jags is to prevent them - avoid serving your child the same food more than every other day. So if chicken nuggets are your child’s absolute favorite, only offer them every other day, or less frequently. If you’re stuck in a food jag with your child, be sure to offer small portions of additional foods alongside favorites (such as a slice of apple with the chicken nuggets). You can also try switching the food up just a little bit. Serve it on a new plate, cut it into different shapes, or serve it alongside a new dip or sauce.

"Let it goooooo!" Sound familiar? Between 12-15, children will start to sing along to familiar songs such as nursery rhymes or favorite songs in movies. Nursery rhymes are great to work on gestures and word imitation. Teach your child the gestures to Wheels on the Bus, Patty Cake, and Itsy Bitsy Spider. Once your child has the gestures down, let them fill in parts of the word such as "The horn on the bus goes....... beep beep!".

FEEDING FRIDAY
Here are some milestones to look for before introducing solid food to your baby. Of course, talk to your child’s pediatrician to get the all-clear before getting started.

🥄 Baby is 4-6 months old. Babies do not need anything but breastmilk or formula before 4 months of age. Some recommend waiting until the child is 6 months old to try solids.
🥄 Baby is sitting independently. When you place baby in their high chair, do they sit up with good head control?
🥄 Baby seems interested in food, and can reach and grab for objects.

Peek-a-boo is a great social game to play with your baby! Around 9-12 months, your child will start to play with you by doing the hand gestures. What to look for during peek-a-boo:
- Eye contact during the game
- Anticipation of "boo"
- Smile and laughing when the parent or caregiver appears
- Imitation of similar gestures when doing it on themselves

If you feel that your child is disengaged during social games such as peek-a-boo, consider receiving a speech-language pathology evaluation to help with attention and social play!

With the holiday's coming up, we are able to spend more quality time with family members whether at home or on Facetime! Between 6-9 months, children will start to recognize immediate family members' names when stated. They might look or point at the person named!

FEEDING FRIDAY

While the holidays might look a little different this year, they may still be a time when kids are exposed to many new, special foods! Here are some things to keep in mind when serving a child a food they have never seen before.

🥄Have your child prepare the food with you. Tell them about the ingredients and how you make it.

🥄Remember that your child has NEVER seen this food before and doesn’t know what it will be like. Take a few bites yourself first and talk about how it tastes and feels in your mouth.

🥄Serve just a small portion of the new food for your child at first. Too much food at a time can be overwhelming. A small “mouse bite” looks less intimidating. You can always offer more if your child likes it.

🥄Don’t pressure your child to try the food. We can’t think of anyone, including adults, who like being coaxed into trying new foods!
