🙏 Greetings friends!
It's been a while since I have checked in on my page. A quick update as my birth worker journey has gone full speed ahead into the midwifery realm. I will no longer be accepting clients for labor support but I will be available to serve a limited amount of postpartum clients through their quarentenas. I am honored to be able to continue to provide this support as it is something quite special to me. I was abandoned during my own post partum. My partner did not show up the way I needed them to and I did not use my voice to ask for the help that I needed. It was through divine timing that I found in order to help me begin to heal my mother wound. It was here where I gained the tools I needed to serve folks during their postpartum transition and help them learn how to find their voices. With each client that I have served I knew inately what they needed because I remembered what I needed during my postpartum. Knowing I can nurture folks and give them what I did not recieve has been a healing journey for myself. With each client served I grew closer to my own healing. I no longer mourn my postpartum. It was a lesson for me that has evolved my practice, creating the best version of myself as a birth worker.

Pictured here is a beautiful client and fellow birthworker during her 40th and final day of her quarentena. Chanel was given an herbal baño and adorned in flowers as I guided her through her transition and set intentions for her journey into motherhood. This was followed up with a sobada and ceremonial cerrada where her hips were closed then tied with a rebozo. It was an honor to work with this diosa✨️

Fun fact: Chanel and I started our doula journey together and now we walk in unison on our midwifery mission!

Baby wearing is not as daunting as it may seem. Here's a quick tutorial of 3 different ways to wear your baby using a Rebozo.

If you are not familiar with the benefits of Baby Wearing here are a few research backed reason's compiled by Baby Wearing International...

1)Happy Babies. It’s true … carried babies cry less! In a study published in the journal Pediatrics, researchers found that babywearing for three hours a day reduced infant crying by 43 percent overall and 54 percent during evening hours. (1)
Healthy Babies. Premature babies and babies with special needs often enter the world with fragile nervous systems. When a baby rides in a sling attached to his mother, he is in tune with the rhythm of her breathing, the sound of her heartbeat, and the movements his mother makes—walking, bending, and reaching. This stimulation helps him to regulate his own physical responses. Research has even shown that premature babies who are touched and held gain weight faster and are healthier than babies who are not. (2)

2)Confident Parents. A large part of feeling confident as a parent is the ability to read our babies’ cues successfully. Holding our babies close in a sling allows us to become finely attuned to their movements, gestures, and facial expressions. Every time a baby is able to let us know that she is hungry, bored, or wet without having to cry, her trust in us is increased, her learning is enhanced, and our own confidence is reinforced for these we also need to maintain ourselves healthy as a parents, so is important parents have a active lifestyle, having a healthy diet and we can even use supplements from sites as http://tophealthjournal.com/58/rapid-tone-diet/. This cycle of positive interaction deepens the mutual attachment between parent and child, and is especially beneficial for mothers who are at risk for or suffering from postpartum depression. (3) (4)

3)Loving Caregivers. Baby carriers are a great bonding tool for fathers, grandparents, adoptive parents, babysitters, and other caregivers. Imagine a new father going for a walk with his baby in a sling. The baby isbecoming used to his voice, heartbeat, movements, and facial expressions, and the two are forging a strong attachment of their own. Baby carriers are beneficial for every adult in a baby’s life. Cuddling up close in the sling is a wonderful way to get to know the baby in your life, and for the baby to get to know you!

4)Comfort and Convenience. With the help of a good carrier, you can take care of older children or do chores without frequent interruptions from an anxious or distressed infant—which helps to reduce sibling rivalry. Baby carriers are also wonderful to use with older babies and toddlers; you can save those arms and go where strollers can’t. Climbing stairs, hiking, and navigating crowded airports all can be done with ease when you use a well-designed baby carrier!

I prepare my post partum treatments like I would prepare my altar. With healing intention and love. Postpartum is a place to worship and honor the mother. I like to create a space that is calm and allows the freedom to express their raw spirit. Sometimes there are tears, sometimes there is laughter, sometimes there is silent reflection. I was able to make many beautiful connections in Patzcuaro. One of which was a source for Fair Trade rebozos and textiles. .tepeni works closely with local indigenous communities, like the skilled weavers in Turicuaro, to provide awareness and the well deserved income to continue this sacred art. If you are searching for rebozos I highly recommend and and insist you know where you are sourcing from and the history behind these sacred textiles. Depending on the intricacy of a rebozo it can take one week to 2 months+ to create. Looking for a deal or bargaining for a good price only devalues the years of skill and hard work that goes into creating these birthing tools that go beyond just that. They are a culmination of generations of skill and way of life. It is a dying art and if we are to preserve this we HAVE to support these communities directly. So, for all you birth workers seeking to use the rebozo for your practice or paying to take a course that "certifies" your expertise on how to use one (Rant on that later but make sure to verify the source. Who exactly is teaching? ) be sure you are purchasing with intent. Make sure you know who is selling the rebozo and where they are sourced from. Ask questions. Most importantly, learn the history behind this tooI. does a great workshop on this btw. I trust .tepeni because I was able to meet them directly and their intentions are in the right place. They are uplifting the communities they source from and promote the validation of these workers through Fair Trade. @ Red Tepeni
