A recent report from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has revealed a positive trend: Among 12- to 17-year-olds who were surveyed between 2021 and 2025, declines were observed for the number of respondents who had reported binge drinking in the previous month, as well as any use of alcohol, to***co or ma*****na.

A key U.S. government report on mental health, substance use and addiction shows continued improvements in several metrics, especially among young people.

There’s a lot of excitement in the air around back-to-school time, that is for sure! And if you or your little ones are feeling like there’s a bit of pressure to rise up to the occasion, please know that you aren’t alone.

To help parents and their pre-K/kindergarteners on the Northwest Side put their best foot forward this year, Meridian’s Megan Maronn, LCSW, and Blanca Saldivar, PsyD, NCSP, shared their expertise during a panel discussion on school-readiness and advocacy at Le Village Cowork on Friday. It was a highly engaging and interactive session guided by parents' thoughtful questions and concerns. We’re proud that Megan and Dr. Saldivar were able to respond with examples of clinical tools, healthy tips and lots of practical advice!

When it comes to school refusal — which educators say is growing increasingly common — one expert who helps families and schools navigate the issue says gradually cutting down on screen time at home, stronger relationships with teachers and counselors and compassion from parents are key for children who are struggling.

Many US schools will start again soon, and some parents will face kids who don’t want to go back. An expert has advice on how to handle this common problem.

It’s good to give back! Here at Meridian, we’re fortunate to work alongside so many talented mental health care professionals in our expansive multidisciplinary group practice each and every day. On Saturday, though, we had the chance to get out there and contribute to another important cause.

Did you know one in two Chicago-area children are impacted by clothing insecurity? Being without basic essentials can impact a child's quality of life and make things such as attending school, enjoying activities with peers and developing the confidence to succeed challenging. Cradles to Crayons Chicago is working to change that! Between April 2025 and March of this year alone, they’ve helped distribute nearly 2.5 million items to kids who need them most.

Thanks for having us, Cradles to Crayons! We’re so glad we could help ensure that children in Chicagoland are prepared to thrive in life. Big thanks also go out to our fantastic team members who joined us!
