When it comes to mental health, studies have shown men are less likely than women to seek support, withdraw from care at higher rates and ultimately take longer to overcome the issues they’re facing. There is good news, though: In 2023, men were more than three times as likely to reach out for support than in 2014. A recent survey of nearly 21,000 people in the United States revealed respondents who said they use AI chatbots every day for personal reasons — such as recommendations, advice or emotional support — were more likely than AI nonusers to report experiencing at least moderate symptoms of depression or feelings of anxiety or irritability.

A new survey found that people who spend more time with chatbots for social interactions or emotional support were likelier to report mental health symptoms.
