Somewhere along the way “your best” got confused with “your max output before you break.” They’re not the same thing. Your best is what you can actually sustain without wrecking your body or your mind to get there.

🤍 Send this to the friend who might be confusing these two things.

Somewhere along the way “rewrites everything five times” became a bullet point on a resume instead of a red flag.
Nobody puts “afraid of being exposed and found wanting” in the skills section. But that’s the actual job perfectionism is doing.
This was never about your standards. It’s an old strategy for staying safe.

A full corporate rollout plan and you’re unstoppable. Asked what’s for dinner and you collapse.
Your brain doesn’t run out of competence. It runs out of decisions it’s willing to make on its own behalf.
The project plan gets your best thinking because someone else needs it from you. The grocery list gets nothing because it’s just for you, and you never learned that you mattered enough to plan for.
🤍 If you can run a meeting but not a grocery list, book a free intro call through the link in bio. We can talk about why (IL only).

“You’re just too hard on yourself” sounds nice but it’s not exactly helpful advice when that voice used to be the thing keeping you safe.
You can’t think your way into being easier on yourself. That voice isn’t a bad habit, it’s something you built a long time ago because it worked. Being told to be nicer to yourself doesn’t touch the part of you that still thinks you have to earn being okay.
This is the actual work in therapy. Not “be kinder to yourself,” but figuring out why you needed that voice in the first place.

None of this is groundbreaking, just kinda annoying.

If you grew up being the mature, watching someone else opt out of trying probably makes your skin crawl a little. That’s what happens when you learn that no one is coming to save you.

🤍 If this hit a little too close, there’s probably more to unpack there. My therapy practice is accepting new clients, use the link in my bio to set up a free intro call (IL only).

None of these are controversial to me. They’re just inconvenient if the plan was to fix this with a gratitude journal and a bubble bath.
If something on that list explains a piece of your life better than you would like it to, that’s usually a sign to actually talk to someone about it.

We think the next thing is going to be the one that finally feels like enough. The job, the promotion, the number in your account. You get there, give it a week, and you’re already eyeing the next one.
It’s easy to be so focused on getting somewhere that you never stop to check if it’s actually what you wanted once you arrived. You just keep moving because moving is what you know how to do.
Sometimes it’s hard to know if you’re chasing something because you want it, or because you’re good at chasing.

🤍 If this hit home, my therapy practice is accepting new clients. You can schedule an intro call using the link in my bio.
