Today is Global Handwashing Day! According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, handwashing is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs.

It’s essential to wash your hands:
• Before, during, and after preparing food
• Before and after treating a cut or wound
• After using the bathroom
• After blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing

If there is no soap or water nearby, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

Early detection is the best protection! Women who are at a higher risk for breast cancer may need a mammogram before age 40. Ask your provider if a referral is right for you if:
• Someone in your family had breast cancer, especially at an early age.
• You previously had radiation to your chest.
• You have an Ashkenazi Jewish heritage.
A screening mammogram can take less than 20 minutes and provide vital results. Talk to your provider for a referral to Enloe Health Breast Imaging.

We’re proud to share that Enloe Health has been selected to receive a $9 million grant from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine to establish a Community Care Center of Excellence in Chico.

In partnership with UC Davis and Healthy Rural California, this initiative will help bring advanced cell and gene therapies, regenerative medicine clinical trials, and specialized care closer to home — expanding access for patients across our rural region.

The program is expected to launch in February 2027 and will support care in oncology, hematology, rheumatology, neurology and more. It will also broaden access to clinical trials for people with blood cancers, autoimmune diseases and rare genetic disorders.

During the Growing Healthy Children event, a participant experienced what appeared to be a sudden heart or vascular episode and collapsed. Enloe nurse, Katie Reynolds, RN, immediately came to his aid and began CPR.

Katie was soon joined by Emergency Department nurse Kristen Addis, RN, and Elizabeth Potter, CNM, OB/GYN certified nurse-midwife. All three were off duty and worked seamlessly together to care for this man. We were also fortunate to have an ambulance on site.

Butte County EMS team members do everything possible to staff community events and I am deeply grateful for that. While the caregivers continued CPR, the EMS crew, Gavin Zarate, Enloe paramedic, and Taryn McKinney, EMT, brought over the AED. After the shock was delivered, the man immediately regained movement. He was then transported to Enloe for further care and I’m very happy to share that he is going to be OK.

Get your free flu shot today! Enloe Health caregivers are administering vaccines at our drive-thru clinic from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Chico Elks Lodge, 1705 Manzanita Ave. in Chico.

This year’s vaccine covers three common flu strains and is appropriate for ages 3 and up.

Please wear clothing that allows vaccination to your upper arm when you attend. Learn more by visiting www.enloe.org/flu.
