A little history about old Fire Station #3:

It was constructed by the city of Chillicothe as a firehouse and was placed into service in 1890. When opened, it had a bunk area upstairs, a fresh milk delivery window on the alley side, pull open wood doors, a small kitchen/dining area, a place for the horse team.

Originally, the floor was a brick floor that allowed the water to soak through, but this was later removed and a concrete floor was installed. Most of these bricks were removed and hauled away but we found fragments while doing the renovations in the side yard.

The family of the firefighters were frequently found to be around the firehouse visiting their husbands and fathers. This was a place of constant activity, even between calls.

The fire station served the citizens well from 1890-1985 when the new fire station #3 on Main Street came online. The city sold the retired station at public auction in 1989 and it was purchased by a private citizen at that time.
