Today for Wednesday we are highlighting Emi Macmillan.
"Hi! My name is Emi MacMillan, the oldest daughter of Laura MacMillan, who I am fundraising for.
My mom is the most incredible person I know. She raises five kids by herself, takes care of her elderly parents, works multiple jobs as an oncology nurse (including back-to-back night shifts at Mass General Hospital in Boston), all while always doing anything she can to help and be there for others. She is the most selfless, caring, loving person, ask anyone.
In the August of 2024, my mom was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. Our family’s life was flipped upside down. Luckily, we were surrounded by our incredible community. People showed up for my mom and our whole family, showing us stability, love and support in the most confusing and chaotic times. We will always be so grateful for the community.
I am also beyond thankful for the Infusion Center at the MV Hospital. Before being diagnosed, my mom worked there, and after being diagnosed she was a patient there, so we know how impactful it is from both sides. They provide incredible and personalized care. They took such great care of my mom, helping to ease everyone’s anxiety. They allowed me to sit with my mom during her infusions and fill out my college applications, making my senior-year a bit more “normal”.
The team I am fundraising for is not just for my mom, Laura, but also for her friend Eileen who was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer shortly after my mom. They fought together, our families and experienced together, and now, we fundraise together.
Please consider donating, no amount is too small. Donate to help patients like my mom, Laura. Donate to help families like mine. Donate to support the island community. Donate to fight cancer. "
