🚨 Testing readiness for when it matters most

Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Unit China Lake recently joined Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake emergency responders and community partners for Exercise Citadel Rumble, a mass-casualty exercise simulating an aircraft crash, structural fires, a building collapse and multiple casualties.

The unit helped plan and execute the exercise, provided hospital corpsmen as casualty role players, and prepared Branch Health Clinic China Lake to receive simulated patients. The exercise tested casualty triage, treatment and tracking while strengthening coordination among military and civilian emergency response partners.

⚓ The training helps ensure Sailors and staff are prepared to respond when called upon — both at home and wherever the mission needs them.

🏥 A walk down memory lane

Branch Health Clinic China Lake recently welcomed retired Capt. Rick T**i, who served as Officer in Charge at the clinic from 1988 to 1991.

Cmdr. William “PJ” Martin, the clinic’s current Officer in Charge, provided Capt. T**i with a tour of the facility and discussed how the clinic has evolved over the decades. Together, they reflected on both the changes—including updated interiors and renovated spaces—and the areas that have remained familiar, such as portions of the treatment room and office spaces.

The two leaders also discussed the clinic’s mission, staffing, and patient care operations. During Capt. T**i’s tenure, approximately 1,000 Sailors were assigned to the installation, and medical services operated on a larger scale than they do today. The visit offered a unique opportunity to compare past and present operations while highlighting the clinic’s enduring role in supporting the China Lake community.

Thank you, Capt. T**i, for visiting Branch Health Clinic China Lake and for your continued connection to Navy Medicine.
