Update on Chinle Service Unit Just Move It Event Information for Many Farms, Arizona

Chinle, AZ– The Many Farms Just Move It (JMI) event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Many Farms Lake as the new location, instead of the chapter house. Restrooms will still be available at the chapter house for use during this event. Registration starts at 4:00 p.m. with a rolling start, which means participants can begin the course as soon as it is ready.

All JMI events are family-friendly and non-political events. Campaigning is not allowed at federal sponsored events.

To keep everyone safe, the course may be shortened from its normal length to 2 miles if temperatures go above 90° Fahrenheit. The course may also be shortened due to inclement weather such as lightning, thunderstorms, or poor air quality from forest smoke. Participant health and safety are our top priorities. JMI organizers recommend participants to wear sunscreen, light, breathable clothing, and a head-covering when exercising outdoors. Drink plenty of water each day, and especially on event days. If you have diabetes, please ensure you have eaten before you exercise!

The Indian Health Service and Gallup Indian Medical Center leadership are actively addressing an infrastructure issue involving elevator failures in Building 2000. While one elevator remains operational, it is not sufficient to fully support patient care needs within the building.

Patient safety and well-being remain the Indian Health Service’s top priority. The facility is coordinating closely with regional health care partners to transfer some patients to other facilities to ensure continuity of high-quality care. Limited operations continue at GIMC, but patients requiring higher levels of care may be transferred or redirected as appropriate.

To address the issue, IHS has accelerated planning and contracting efforts, along with interim measures to restore infrastructure capacity as quickly as possible. We appreciate the support of our partner facilities and the dedication of staff working to manage this situation. IHS remains committed to providing transparent updates to Tribal partners, patients, staff, elected officials, and the community as the situation evolves.

Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility Temporary Divert of Inpatient Pediatric Services

Chinle, AZ- Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility (CCHCF) will temporarily divert inpatient pediatric services beginning Sunday, May 3, 2026. During this temporary adjustment, pediatric patients requiring inpatient care will be referred to surrounding health care facilities until further notice.

This decision follows careful evaluation by CCHCF leadership and is due to limited staffing resources. The safety and quality of care for our patients remain our highest priority.

This temporary divert does not affect obstetric or newborn services. Pediatric providers will continue to offer 24hours/7days a week coverage for deliveries and newborn care. Additionally, the Outpatient Pediatric Clinic remains fully operational and will continue to provide care during the regular business hours.

CCHCF is actively working to address staffing needs so that regular inpatient pediatric services can resume as soon as possible. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding during this temporary transition.

Chinle Service Unit Just Move It Events!

Chinle, AZ-Lace up the shoes and get ready for the Chinle Service Unit’s (CSU) Just Move It (JMI) walk/run series events! Please see the schedule below for locations and details as some events start at different times. Celebrate your health at each of our events and participate in our themes! We look forward to seeing you at one of the JMI events.

CSU’s number one priority is participants’ safety. If temperatures during event times exceed 90 degrees, the course will be shortened to 2 miles to help prevent heat-related illness and injuries. The course may also be shortened in the event of prolonged lightning/thunderstorms, or severe air quality issues (excessive smoke). Your health, well-being, and safety are important, and although exercise is integral, so is your overall health!
