“The Part Nobody Sees”
One of our clinicians shared her story with us and asked to remain anonymous.

“People often see the finished version of your career.

They see the title.
They see the experience.
They see the confidence.

But they don't always see everything it took to get there.

There was a time in my career when I questioned whether I had made the right choice.

I was exhausted. I was trying to balance work, personal responsibilities, and the pressure I put on myself to be good at what I do.

There were days when I went home wondering if I was really making a difference.

I compared myself to other clinicians. I worried that I wasn't progressing fast enough. And sometimes, I felt like everyone else had it figured out except me.

But I kept showing up.
I kept learning.
I asked questions when I didn't know the answer. I accepted that making mistakes didn't mean I was failing. It meant I was still growing.

Slowly, things started to change.

I became more confident in my decisions. I stopped being so afraid of asking for help. I learned to trust my own experience.

And one day, I looked back and realized something:
I wasn't the same clinician who once doubted herself.

The challenges hadn't disappeared. I had simply become stronger because of them.

Today, I'm proud of the clinician I've become—not because everything has been easy, but because I know how hard I worked to get here.

If you're currently struggling in your career, I want you to know that it's okay to feel uncertain.

You don't have to have everything figured out.

Sometimes, success isn't one big moment.

Sometimes, success is simply choosing to keep going until you realize how far you've come.”

Behind every clinician is a story that doesn't appear on a résumé.

The long days.
The self-doubt.
The sacrifices.
The lessons.
The small victories that eventually become a career you're proud of.

This is what it means to go .

And maybe your story could inspire someone, too.

If you have a personal experience, challenge, breakthrough, or career moment you'd like to share, we'd love to hear from you. Your story can be shared anonymously, if you prefer.

📩 Share your story with us and become part of our series.

Shared anonymously at the clinician's request.

Every clinician has a story. Sometimes, sharing it reminds someone else that they're not alone. 💙

Beyond the IEP | Episode 002

The Student Everyone Warned Me About

"Good luck."

That was the first thing they told me.

"He's one of the toughest students you'll ever work with."

Another staff member added,

"Don't take it personally if he refuses to work with you."

By the time I walked into the room, I had already built a picture of him in my mind.

Defiant.

Uncooperative.

Difficult.

I was prepared for yelling.

For refusal.

For a long, exhausting school year.

Instead...

He barely looked at me.

We sat in silence for a moment before he quietly asked,

"Are you leaving too?"

I wasn't prepared for that question.

I asked him what he meant.

He shrugged.

"My last teacher left."

"Then my therapist left."

"Then another one left."

"Everybody leaves."

In that moment, everything changed.

The behavior everyone had warned me about wasn't the whole story.

What looked like defiance was disappointment.

What looked like resistance was self-protection.

He wasn't pushing adults away because he didn't care.

He was trying not to get attached to someone he thought would leave anyway.

That day reminded me that behavior is often communication.

Sometimes the loudest behaviors come from the quietest hurts.

As educators and clinicians, we spend so much time asking,

"How do I manage this behavior?"

Maybe the better question is,

"What has this child experienced that brought them here?"

Because when we become curious before becoming corrective, we don't just change interventions.

We change relationships.

And sometimes...

A child doesn't need another person who knows the right strategy.

They need one adult who stays.

💙 Have you ever had a student who completely changed your first impression? We'd love to hear your story.

Beyond the IEP | Episode 001

"Sometimes, the hardest part of the job isn't the students. It's feeling like you're facing the challenges alone."

At our recent Virtual Open House, we met an incredible special education teacher who shared a story that has stayed with us.

She loved her students. She enjoyed working with her colleagues. She was passionate about helping children succeed.

But over time, a working relationship with another team member became increasingly difficult. She felt her ideas were dismissed, her contributions overlooked, and the workplace became emotionally exhausting.

She did what many professionals are encouraged to do—she spoke up. She reported her concerns through the appropriate channels and hoped things would improve.

Unfortunately, she felt unheard.

Eventually, she made the difficult decision to leave—not because of the students, but because she no longer felt supported.

Her story reminded us of something important:

Supporting educators and therapists goes beyond placing them in a school.

It's checking in after the first week... and the fifth.

It's asking, "How are you really doing?"

It's advocating when they need someone in their corner.

It's listening before problems become reasons to leave.

At Pediatric Therapy Associates, we believe our providers should never feel like they're navigating challenges on their own. Whether it's a concern about the work environment, collaboration, or day-to-day support, we are committed to listening, advocating, and partnering with both our providers and our school partners to help create healthy, productive workplaces where everyone can focus on what matters most—the students.

Because when we take care of the people serving children, everyone benefits.

To protect privacy, this story has been anonymized and identifying details have been changed.

What does a supportive workplace look like to you? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

"What if I regret leaving?"

That was the question Lauren (name changed for privacy) asked herself before making a career change.

After six years at the same school, she realized she wasn't growing anymore. She wanted a supportive team, new opportunities, and a workplace where collaboration was part of the culture.

Instead of pushing her into just any position, we took the time to understand what mattered most to her and matched her with a school that fit her goals.

A few weeks later, she told us:
"I wish I had made this move sooner. I forgot what it felt like to be excited for Monday mornings."

At Pediatric Therapy Associates, we believe every clinician deserves more than just a job—they deserve a place where they feel supported, valued, and inspired.
