“You have IBS. Just eat more fiber and manage your stress.”

Have you ever been given advice like that… and thought,

“Okay, but WHY is this happening to me?”

You're bloated.

Your stomach hurts.

Your bathroom habits are unpredictable.

Maybe you've already changed your diet, tried more fiber, cut out certain foods, and done everything you were told to do.

But the symptoms keep coming back.

And eventually, you start wondering if this is just something you have to live with.

Here's something I want you to think about:

IBS describes what you're experiencing. It doesn't necessarily explain why.

And that's a really important distinction.

Because behind the bloating, cramping, constipation, diarrhea, or food reactions, there may be other pieces worth investigating.

SIBO.

Gut permeability.

Dysbiosis.

Food sensitivities.

Your gut-brain connection.

Even an old gastrointestinal infection that happened years before your IBS symptoms started.

And sometimes, the more foods you remove and the more symptoms you chase, the bigger the question becomes:

Why is your gut reacting this way in the first place?

That's the conversation I dive into in this week's newsletter.

Because the goal shouldn't be to spend the rest of your life avoiding more and more foods or treating the same symptoms over and over.

The goal is to understand the terrain underneath them.

If you've been told you have IBS but still don't feel like you've found the real reason behind your symptoms, this week's newsletter is for you.

A negative test isn’t the same thing as feeling well — and feeling well was always the actual goal. If your results came back clear but you still don’t feel right, that’s information, not a dead end.

If you’ve been told you have IBS and sent home with a fiber recommendation, that was never meant to be the finish line. It was meant to be the start of asking why.

Because symptoms are information. And sometimes, the most important question isn’t “How do we manage this?” but “What is your body trying to tell us?”

This week, we’ll take a closer look at IBS, what may be happening beneath the symptoms, and why understanding the why can be an important part of moving forward.

Let’s start asking better questions. 🌿

Have you ever been given a diagnosis without being given the “why” behind it?

Saturday reminder: You don’t have to wait until everything feels better to give yourself permission to rest. 🌿

Rest is not something you have to earn after you’ve pushed through the pain, finished the list, or taken care of everyone else.

Sometimes, rest is part of the healing itself.

So today, slow down where you can. Take a breath. Let your body soften. Give yourself a little more space than you normally do.

You are allowed to rest while you’re still healing. 🤍

What would resting well look like for you this weekend? 🙂

Sometimes the most powerful question isn’t “what’s wrong with you,” it’s “what have you been carrying?”

"𝙃𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙜𝙖?"

"𝙈𝙖𝙮𝙗𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩."

"𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨."

“𝙎𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙣.”

If you've lived with widespread, unexplained pain, chances are you've heard at least one of these.

And after hearing them enough times, you might start wondering…

“𝙈𝙖𝙮𝙗𝙚 𝙞𝙩'𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙢𝙚.”

But here's what I want you to know:

Your pain is real.

And the fact that there isn't a simple blood test that says “𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙛𝙞𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙢𝙮𝙖𝙡𝙜𝙞𝙖” doesn't make the pain any less real.

Fibromyalgia is much more complicated than simply having "a low pain tolerance."

Your nervous system can actually become more sensitive to pain signals—essentially turning up the volume on sensations that wouldn't normally hurt as much.

But that brings us to the question I think is even more important:

𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙢𝙚 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙙 𝙪𝙥 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚?

For some people, the story may involve a viral illness.

For others, chronic stress, disrupted sleep, gut health, metabolic dysfunction, or even a physical trauma may be part of the picture.

And emerging research is giving us even more reasons to look deeper into what's happening beneath the symptoms.

That doesn't mean there's one single cause of fibromyalgia.

It means “𝙬𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙚𝙭𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙬𝙝𝙮 𝙮𝙤𝙪'𝙧𝙚 𝙝𝙪𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜” 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙨 “𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚'𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙡𝙚𝙛𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙞𝙣𝙫𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙚.”

You deserve more than being told to simply live with it.

That's exactly what I dive into in this week's newsletter—what may be happening inside the nervous system, why sleep and inflammation matter, and some of the overlooked pieces worth exploring when you're living with chronic widespread pain.
