To my former HSHS colleagues,

Many of us dedicated years of our lives to caring for patients at Sacred Heart and St. Joseph's. We know firsthand what our community lost when those hospitals closed.

Next Tuesday 06/23, the Chippewa County Board will make one of the most important healthcare decisions our county has faced in decades. They will vote on whether to support the Chippewa Valley Health Cooperative by serving as a co-signer on a Wisconsin Land Trust loan to help restore a full-service, locally governed hospital.

If you live in Chippewa County, your voice matters.

Please take just a few minutes to call or email your County Supervisor before the vote. Let them know that access to local healthcare is important to you, your family, and our community. Hearing directly from the people they represent can make a real difference.

Thank you to the Leader-Telegram for clarifying that the Chippewa Valley Health Cooperative is focused first on reopening the former St. Joseph's Hospital as a full-service hospital in Chippewa Falls.

Our goal is simple: restore local hospital services as quickly as possible so patients can receive timely care close to home and Chippewa County once again has access to a full range of hospital services.

This much needed service expands access to specialized care close to home, treating a wide range of conditions including diabetic ulcers, pressure wounds, and post-surgical healing needs.

The Chippewa Valley Cooperative Hospital (CVCH) is pleased to announce the opening of the new Wound Care Center. This specialty service will restore critical access to our community, filling a crucial gap in healthcare.

Wound care is not optional. It is essential, often urgent and ongoing. The Wound Care Center provides patients with shorter travel times, faster treatments, and better healing outcomes. The department provides expert care utilizing advanced techniques such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy for conditions like diabetic ulcers, pressure wounds, burns, post-surgical complications, and non-healing wounds.

Our mission at CVCH is to bring essential, high-quality care back to the Chippewa Valley-locally owned and community-led. The launch of the center and its much-needed services will bring immediate and accessible care to patients and fulfill a dangerous void in our community.

Two years ago, something extraordinary happened.

Just six weeks after HSHS announced it was closing Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s and walking away from more than 70,000 patients in our region, the community came together and formed the Chippewa Valley Health Cooperative.

In just the past year alone, together we have:
- Closed on the purchase of the former St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls — a major milestone in restoring local hospital capacity
- Secured an agreement for land in Lake Hallie for the new hospital
- Opened our local Cancer Care services to begin restoring critical oncology access in our region
- Prepared to launch our Advanced Wound Care Center, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, to meet another urgent community need
- Continued the complex, behind-the-scenes licensing, certification, staffing, and operational work required to reopen Chippewa Falls as a full-service hospital later this year

We were officially formed on February 29, 2024, as a community-owned, nonprofit cooperative, governed locally, accountable to you, and built to restore the 34%+ of healthcare access our region lost .

We still have important work in front of us: reopening Chippewa Falls as a fully operational hospital, continuing to expand services, and building our new, state-of-the-art hospital in Lake Hallie.

But right now, we're celebrating two years of Chippewa Valley Health Cooperative! 🎉
