Nearly 90% of ischemic heart disease deaths were linked to risk factors that can often be managed or improved.
A new JAMA Cardiology study found that high blood pressure, poor diet, and high LDL cholesterol remain the leading contributors to ischemic heart disease, while higher body weight and higher blood sugar are playing an even greater role than they did 30 years ago.
The encouraging news? Heart disease deaths have declined significantly over the past three decades, showing that prevention works.
