What does it mean when your doctor is trained in geriatric medicine?

As we age, healthcare can become more complex. Older adults may be managing several health conditions, multiple medications, changes in mobility, memory concerns or new priorities for maintaining independence and quality of life.

Geriatric medicine training gives physicians additional expertise in understanding how these factors work together — and how healthcare needs can change with age.

Both Dr. Carrie Guidry and Dr. Jacob Clement at The Point Primary Care are trained in geriatric medicine, allowing our patients to receive this specialized perspective close to home.

Because aging well deserves thoughtful, individualized care.

Happy Labor Day from Acadia St. Landry Hospital!

Today, we celebrate the people whose hard work keeps our communities moving forward — including the dedicated team members who care for our patients every day.

In observance of Labor Day, all outpatient clinics are closed today and will reopen tomorrow. Our Emergency Department remains open 24/7 for emergency care.

We hope everyone has a safe and restful Labor Day.

Football season is back in Church Point, and there’s nothing quite like a Friday night under the lights.

From the players taking the field to the coaches, families, band members, cheerleaders and fans filling the stands, we’re wishing Church Point High a safe and exciting season.

Acadia St. Landry Hospital is proud to care for the community we all call home — on Friday nights and every day in between.

The People Behind the Care: Sammye Wyble, Pharmacist

Some people are easy to spotlight because their personality shows up long before their job title does. Sammye Wyble is one of those people.

As our pharmacist, Sammye plays an important role in helping make sure patients get the care they need, but what she enjoys most is being part of a team that works well together.

That team-first mindset has followed her for a long time. Her first job was waiting tables, and she still credits that experience with teaching her how to multitask, solve problems, work through conflict and deal with just about every kind of personality. That last skill probably comes in handy around here.

Sammye describes herself as pretty ordinary, but we’re not completely buying it. She was valedictorian of her high school class, would choose teleportation as a superpower, and has reached the stage of life where her hobbies mostly depend on what her kids have going on that week.

She’s a coffee person, more night owl than morning person, and happiest anywhere that combines good food with live music — something Louisiana makes pretty easy.

If she weren’t in healthcare, Sammye says she would probably choose a career that gave her more freedom to travel and a flexible schedule. That makes the teleportation choice make even more sense.

One piece of advice has stayed with her through the years: always surround yourself with people who are better than you. And for anyone just beginning a career in healthcare, she has two rules of her own:
Never say the Q word.
And never be afraid to ask questions.

If you work in healthcare, you already know which one of those rules is non-negotiable.

Sammye brings humor, experience and a steady team-first approach to ASLH, and we’re lucky to have her as one of The People Behind the Care.
