Read this before you come down with your next cold! 🤧

The FDA has declared that phenylephrine does not work to treat nasal congestion when taken orally! This ingredient is found in MANY over the counter cold remedies.

Many septoplasty and rhinoplasty patient suffer for years with chronic nasal congestion before deciding to proceed with surgery and take these medications long-term. This suggests that they should STOP.

There are other options that DO work for nasal congestion but many are not safe for long-term use.

Remember that intranasal medications like oxymetazoline (ie Afrin) and intranasal phenylephrine should only be used for three days MAX before the begin to have harmful side effects.

Intranasal steroids can be great for chronic nasal congestion that is a result of inflammation or allergy. If that isn’t working, it may be time to talk to a specialist!
