A quick note about late cancellations for my small animal appointments.
As many of you know, I split my time between in-office care for dogs/cats and mobile visits for horses and livestock. Lately, last minute cancellations for small animal appointments have become increasingly common, and I wanted to explain why they have such a significant impact.
When an appointment is cancelled at the last minute:
⏰ That time was reserved specifically for you, and it's usually impossible to fill with only a few hours notice.
💔 Another animal who needed care loses the opportunity to be seen. This is the hardest part for me. It truly breaks my heart when I have to tell a client that I can't fit their dog in because my schedule is full, only to have that sought after time cancelled last minute.
🐎 It also means I've turned down the opportunity to schedule barn visits during that time (these appointments are rarely cancelled on me).
I completely understand that life happens and true emergencies come up. If that happens, just let me know. However, routine last minute cancellations have a real impact. Not just on my business, but on other patients and families who were hoping for an appointment.
My cancellation policy isn't meant to be punitive. It's there to protect appointment availability for everyone, respect the time reserved for each patient, and allow me to continue balancing both my in office and mobile practice.
Thank you to everyone who plans ahead, communicates when schedules change, and respects my time. Your consideration allows me to continue providing the best care possible to all of my patients, both large and small. ❤️
