Added in 1899, this original columbarium section still stands in the eastern end of the Chapel of Memories, the upper level section and original structure of the Cincinnati Cremation Company. Over the years, matching niches have been added and now cover seven sides of the dodecagonal-shaped room, consisting of over 500 niches with thousands of inurnments. Completed in 1887 it remains the third-longest operating crematory in the US. (Cremation Association Collection, John Crerar Library at the University of Chicago)

The earliest known image of the cremators in the Cincinnati Cremation Company. Presumably taken soon after the chapel on the upper level was completed, this image shows a common feature of America's earliest crematories - that the body was removed from the casket prior to cremation and placed on a metal cradle before being placed into the cremator.
