I had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Laurie Bruce on her podcast, From Both Sides Of The Couch with Dr. Laurie Bruce, and I loved how this conversation unfolded.
We talked a lot about how families end up in patterns of enabling, not because they’re trying to do the wrong thing, but because they care. So much of it is driven by fear. Fear of losing the relationship, fear of what might happen if they don’t step in, or just feeling stuck and not knowing what else to do.
This is something I see every day in my work. Families are doing the best they can with what they have, and often without the kind of support they actually need.
I’m always grateful for opportunities to talk more openly about this. When families start to understand these patterns, it creates space to shift how they show up, and that’s often where things begin to change.
Really appreciated being part of the conversation. (Link in comments)
