Philip E. McGrath

Philip E. McGrath, 80, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at his home in Willet, NY, while surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 15, 1946, in Johnson City, NY, Phil was the son of the late Harvey and Aurena Landers McGrath. He led a life marked by dedication, community involvement, and a deep love for his family.

Phil devoted 28 years of his professional life to IBM Corporation, retiring with a career characterized by commitment and excellence. Not one to rest in retirement, he continued to contribute by working at the Cincinnatus Home Center, exemplifying his enduring work ethic and desire to serve his community.

Phil was a member of the Cincinnatus Area Heritage Society, where he contributed to the preservation and celebration of local history. He took great pride in coaching Little League, guiding young athletes with patience and encouragement, and was a valued member of the Cincinnatus bowling league. Additionally, Phil found joy and relaxation in playing golf, a pastime that reflected his love for camaraderie and friendly competition.

Phil is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Kathy Livermore McGrath, whose unwavering support and partnership enriched his life. Together, they raised three sons: Timothy McGrath and his wife Trisha of Ilion, Michael McGrath and his wife Jessica of Anniston, Alabama, and Brian McGrath and his wife Lyndsey of Rochester. Phil’s legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren: Nicole, Cassandra, Matthew, Nicholas, Connor, Jenna, and Savannah, and six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth McGrath, and his sisters, Yvonne David and Iris Meyer, whose memories he cherished throughout his life.

The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Will Gallerani officiating. Burial will be in Upper Lisle Cemetery. William D. McIntyre

William D. McIntyre, 65, of Cortland, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at his home.

Bill was born in Binghamton, NY on November 19, 1960, the son of Carl and Alice Simpson McIntyre. He lived a life marked by dedication, hard work, and quiet leadership.

Bill began his career in construction in North Carolina, where he honed the skills that would serve him throughout his professional life. Most notably, he served as the head maintenance person for Chris Calabro at the Port Watson Commons, bringing diligence and care to his role that earned him the respect of colleagues and community alike.

Beyond his work, Bill took great pride in his role as a leader within Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA), helping many to find their path toward recovery and hope. This contribution stood among his proudest accomplishments and reflected his compassionate spirit.

A man of simple but profound pleasures, Bill enjoyed riding motorcycles, a hobby that brought him a sense of freedom and joy. Those who knew him remember not only his steadiness but also the quiet passion with which he embraced this interest.

Bill is survived by his mother, Alice Simpson McIntyre of Mt. Pleasant, NC; his sister, Carla (Jon) Carpentier of Tucson, AZ; his brother, A.J. (Viva) McIntyre of North Carolina; his uncle, Eugene Simpson of Pennsylvania; his aunt, Patricia (John) Rice of Cincinnatus; his uncle, Robert (Joy) Simpson of North Carolina; and his aunt, Debbie (Jim) Duncan of Cortland, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. These family members carry forward his legacy of integrity and kindness.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl McIntyre; his grandparents, Jack and Rita Simpson and Art and Cora McIntyre; his aunt, Mae Russell; and his uncle, Jack Simpson, Jr.

In keeping with the wishes of the family, private graveside services will be held at their convenience. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to a local Alcoholics Anonymous organization.

Bill’s passing leaves a space in the hearts of many who valued his steadfast character and unyielding support. He will be remembered with respect and affection by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life serves as a testament to resilience, dedication, and compassionate leadership.

Gordon Joseph Fox

Gordon Joseph Fox, 68, affectionately known as Joe, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Syracuse VA Hospital in Syracuse, NY.

Joe was born in Cortland, NY on November 3, 1957, the son of the late Gordon W. and Yvonne Elser Fox. He lived a life marked by dedication, service, and a passion for travel.

Joe proudly served in the United States Army from 1976 to 1984, a period during which he demonstrated commitment and patriotism. Following his military service, he was employed as a Retail Merchandiser for The Beam Team in Syracuse, NY, where he was respected by colleagues and valued for his work ethic.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joe held a deep love for exploration and travel, cherishing the experiences and adventures that broadened his view of the world.

He is survived by his brother, Greg Fox of Springs, CA, and his brother Paul Fox and his wife Rose of East Freetown. He is also leaves behind his stepmother, Sharon Fox and his sister-in-law, Tina Fox, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins who remember him fondly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Fox, who passed away in 2025.

In keeping with the wishes of the family, private family services will be held at a later date.

Joe’s memory will endure through the stories shared by those who loved him and the legacy of a life well lived. His family and friends celebrate the meaningful impact he made and the joy he found in his journeys throughout life.

Wendell L. Peaslee

Wendell L. Peaslee, 96, of Cincinnatus, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, after a period of declining health.

Born in Pharsalia, NY, on April 17, 1930, Wendell was the son of the late George and Hazel Thompson Peaslee. Wendell's life was marked by dedication, hard work, and an abiding passion for his work and those he served.

Wendell retired from Agway in 1992 after an impressive 40 years of dedicated service. His work brought him into close contact with farmers, a connection he cherished deeply both during and beyond his career. After his time at Agway and before his return to Cincinnatus, Wendell served as the resident assistant and groundskeeper for the Friendship House in Cortland for many years—a role that reflected his steadfast commitment to supporting his community. Additionally, he held the respected positions of trustee and sexton of the Wayside Rest Cemetery, further demonstrating his involvement and care for the local heritage and community spaces.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Wendell was an ardent New York Yankees fan, a passion that was well known among his family and friends. His genuine love for the game was a source of joy and connection throughout his life.

Wendell’s devotion to his family was profound. He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Carolyn Cornelius Peaslee; his daughters, Lorelei (James) Rice of Cincinnatus and Claudia (Joseph) Natale of Cortland; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. His extended family includes many nieces, nephews, and cousins who hold his memory dear.

He was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Terry DuBois, as well as his sister, Murial Degear.

Private graveside services to honor Wendell's life will be held at the Wayside Rest Cemetery, Pharsalia, at the convenience of the family. Robert Sharp, Sr.

Robert W. Sharp, Sr., 90, of Berkshire, NY, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

A lifelong resident of Berkshire, Bob was born in Berkshire on September 7, 1935, the son of the late Henry D. and Leona Westfall Sharp. Bob’s life was marked by dedication, family devotion, and a steadfast commitment to his community.

Bob attended the East Berkshire United Methodist Church. He was a proud graduate of Newark Valley High School, Class of 1953 and remained in touch with his classmates through class reunions. Bob embarked on a distinguished career with Newark Valley Central School, where he was employed for an impressive 40 years. He began humbly as a bus driver and, through his unwavering work ethic and expertise, retired in 1996 as the Superintendent of Buildings & Grounds. His professional path was enriched by his self-employment as a plumber and electrician throughout his adult life, demonstrating his versatility and strong work ethic. Earlier in life, Bob also served the community by driving a milk truck for Borden’s and selling DeLaval farm supplies. In partnership with his beloved wife and their son Scott, he operated the Will-Rose-Laine Jersey Farm for several years, nurturing their family and their land with care.

Beyond his professional achievements, Bob was deeply involved in civic and community activities. He was a dedicated member of the Southern Tier Chapter of the New York State Association of Superintendent of Buildings & Grounds, contributing his knowledge and leadership. His passion for youth was evident during his time as assistant Cub Scout master and Webelo leader for Cub Scout Pack 30, roles he fulfilled while his twin boys were growing, fostering growth and character in the next generation.

Bob’s family was the cornerstone of his life. He is lovingly survived by his adult children: Keith (Kimberly) Sharp of Yardley, PA; Kevin (Christina Brown) Sharp of Cincinnatus, Kaye (Glenn) Hartwell of Berkshire, Robert (Brian Hubbard) Sharp, Jr. of Federalway, WA, Kathie (Timothy) Pipher of Waverly and Scott (Valerie Richardson) Sharp of Big Flatts.

Bob also cherished the memory of his grandchildren, Melissa Fisher and Bryan Burkard, whom Bob and June lovingly raised, Kara Settas, Brandon Campbell, Kelli Hall, Kyle Sharp, Samantha Randall, Kirsten Sharp, Emily Sharp, William Blow, and Benjamin Sharp — as well as great-grandchildren James, Lucas, Alex, Michael, Owen, Oliver, Harper, Justin, Hannah, Caleb, Kaia, Lucious, Alexus, Nate, Rylee, Brandon, Johnathan, Lillian, Vivian, Maverick, and Maxton, and a great-great-grandchild, Mavery. His brother Roger (Barbara) Sharp of Newark Valley, his sisters Lorraine (Chuck Galia) Hobbie of Newark Valley and Janet Ricci of Painted Post, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins, also mourn his passing.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 65 years, June R. (Grummons) Sharp, who passed away on February 14, 2022, and siblings Shirley Simmons, Barbara Ryan, and Henry Sharp.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Marathon Memorial Chapel, 4071 State Route 221, Marathon, NY, on Thursday evening, June 4, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Jeanne Angell officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Berkshire.

Bob’s life was one of tireless dedication, quiet strength, and heartfelt commitment to family and community. He will be remembered with profound respect and love by all who knew him, leaving a legacy rooted in service, family, and kindness.

JoAnn S. Wyatt

JoAnn S. (Hotaling) Wyatt, 72, of Solon, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at her home in Solon, with her family by her side.

Born on Cortland, NY in August 13, 1953, JoAnn was the daughter of the late Robert and Patricia Platt Hotaling. She dedicated much of her life to caring for others, exemplified by her 31 years of service as a central sterile technician at River Hospital in Alexandria Bay, from which she retired in 2020.

Throughout her career, JoAnn was known for her meticulous attention to detail and commitment to the highest standards of patient care, making a lasting impact on the hospital community and those who had the privilege of working alongside her.

JoAnn’s life was enriched by her loving family. She is survived by her daughters, Heather (Jason) O'Rourke of Marathon and Melissa Fox of West Virginia, who carry forward her legacy and spirit. Her cherished grandchildren, Brianna (Joey) Ricks of Florida, Brenden (Amber Price) O'Rourke of Theresa, Zachary O'Rourke of Montana, JoAnna Petrella of West Virginia, and Danica Fox of West Virginia, along with her great-grandchildren, Hailey Ricks of Florida and Harmony O'Rourke and Jasper O’Rourke of Theresa, were sources of great joy and pride to her. JoAnn was also a beloved sister to Karen (Dale) Maricle of Solon, Bonnie (Bud) Bearup of McGraw, Linda Hotaling of McGraw, Lori (Dale) Jacobs of Cortland, Patty Sue (Gary) Norton of Groton, and Jake (Brenda) Hotaling of Solon. Her life was further surrounded by the love of her sister-in-law, Tina Hotaling, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Will Wyatt, who passed away on October 26, 2019, and her brother, Robert Hotaling, Jr. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, especially those she nurtured and cared for, both within her family and throughout her professional life.

Richard Lewis, 56, of Willet, NY, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Mercy House of the Southern Tier in Endicott, NY.

Richard was born on November 17, 1969, the son of the late Richard and Pat Lewis. He lived a life marked by dedication and hard work, notably spending his career as a self-employed roofer until illness interrupted his professional journey.

He is survived by several cousin who carry forward his memory with fondness and respect. Although no immediate family members are mentioned, the bond he shared with his cousins remains a testament to his connection to family and kin.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Robin (Coville) Lewis on July 31, 2016.

John A. Shepard, 50, of Groton, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, New York.

Born on November 28, 1975, in Cortland, NY, John was the son of Loyd and Kathy Standish Shepard. A proud 1995 graduate of Cincinnatus Central School, he dedicated himself to both his craft and his family with unwavering commitment and love.

John worked as a skilled painter for KSP Painting in Syracuse, NY, where his meticulous attention to detail and dedication to his trade were well regarded by colleagues and clients alike. Beyond his profession, John was a talented carpenter, crafting with precision and care, a reflection of his patient and creative spirit.

A longtime enthusiast of the Green Bay Packers, John’s passion for the sport was well known among his family and friends. His hobbies extended into the natural world where he took joy in collecting rocks, transforming these simple treasures into remarkable creations, an art he pursued with great delight. His love for the outdoors also included hunting, a pursuit that further connected him to nature and tradition.

Above all, John’s greatest joy came from coaching his children in soccer. His guidance was not merely about sport but about instilling values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. This role added a profound dimension to his life, as he nurtured the talents and spirits of his children.

John is survived by his beloved family, including his children, Darien McEwen of Montana and Dawson Shepard of Marathon; his father Loyd Shepard of Groton; his siblings Jody Shepard of Marathon, Timothy (Patti) Shepard of Cortland, Nicole (Louis) Thompson of Groton, Timothy Shepard of Cortland, Samantha (Michael) Williams of Portugal, and Kimberly (Lewis) Ramos of El Paso, TX; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his mother, John was predeceased by two nephews, Louie Ramos and Steven Larkin.

The family will honor John’s memory with a Celebration of Life on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Willet Ball Park, Willet, NY. This gathering will provide an opportunity for friends and loved ones to commemorate a life well lived and to share stories of a man who enriched the lives of those around him. Ronald D. White, 69, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at the Guthrie Cortland Regional Medical Center, Cortland, NY.

Ron was born in Cortland, NY on November 10, 1956, the son of the late Devere and Shirley Franklin White. Ron's life was deeply intertwined with the community that shaped him.

Throughout his career, Ron devoted many years to the Empire Livestock Auction Service and Wood's Auction Service, where he earned respect for his dedication and professionalism. His work was a reflection of his strong work ethic and commitment to his craft.

Ron was a man who treasured the company of those he loved. He found joy and comfort in spending time with his family and friends, cherishing the connections that enriched his life. His warm personality and genuine nature left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

He is survived by his brothers Rick (Donna) White of Virginia, Stephen White of Cincinnatus, Robert (Kay) White of Texas, and Timothy (Karie) White of Homer. Ron also leaves behind several nieces and cousins who will remember him fondly.
