A Praying Mantis just doing a little dance…Nature giving me a smile. There is a lot of symbolism associated with the Praying Mantis-patience, mindfulness, intuition and the presence of a guardian/spirit to name a few—perfect timing to see it.

Flora of The Yard-Day 30/30
Dawn Redwood
~ Metasequoia glyptostroboides~
This magnificent, towering tree creates a perfect canopy over a portion of our yard. These trees were known as a "living fossil" because it was thought to be extinct for millions of years before being found alive in China in the 1940s.
* “Flora” refers to all of the vegetation growing in an area and is not limited to flowers only. We have far more than 30 kinds of flowers, plants, tress etc. but these were the 30 that wanted the spotlight 🙂
What are you growing in your yard or residence?
* In leiu of my usual chopstick ‘pointer’ I am using an elder twig.

( Garden gloved hand for size reference :)
Also referred to as Black-Eyed Susan-there are so many varieties of Rudbeckia. This is a wonderful, brightly colored variety with fun big blooms.

Elegant and colorful-these flowers look like a bunch of tiny feathers put together.

Gerbera Daisy

Also known as the Transvaal Daisy. These vibrant and joyful flowers come in many color variations and do not have a scent.

Hens and Chicks
(Succulent)
~ Sempervivum tectorum~
Also known as the ‘Common Houselleek’. Wonderful symmetry on these succulents. The large main rosette is called the ‘Hen’ and it produces the numerous, smaller rosettes called ‘Chicks’.

Shasta Daisy

This pretty Daisy is extra fancy with the center ( disc) giving a little bloom! Fun fact: The Shasta Daisy center is actually made up of many tiny individual flowers grouped together.

Tiger Lilly

“Fancy Lancy”
This is from a few weeks ago-the Tiger lilies are done for the season here. The flowers have that cool coloring of a tiger and the stalks produce small, bean-like bulbs that can be used to grow new plants.

These dark purple petunias, that appear black in certain light, are one of my favorite flowers.
