💙 5 Signs It Might Be Time to Consider Hospice
Knowing when to have a hospice conversation can be difficult. Here are a few signs it may be time to talk with your healthcare provider about whether hospice could be appropriate:
1️⃣ Frequent hospital or emergency room visitsRepeated hospitalizations or medical complications may be a sign that additional comfort-focused support could help.
2️⃣ A noticeable decline in daily activitiesIncreasing difficulty walking, bathing, dressing, eating, or managing everyday activities can be an important change to discuss.
3️⃣ Increasing weakness or fatigueSpending more time resting or having less energy for activities that were once manageable may indicate a decline.
4️⃣ More difficulty managing symptomsPain, shortness of breath, nausea, or other symptoms that are becoming harder to control deserve a conversation with the care team.
5️⃣ A serious illness is progressing despite treatmentWhen a life-limiting illness continues to advance, it may be time to discuss goals of care and whether hospice support is appropriate.
🏡 Hospice isn’t about giving up. It’s about focusing on comfort, dignity, quality of life, and meaningful time with the people you love.
If you or a loved one is experiencing these changes, talk with your healthcare provider or hospice team to learn more about your options.
💙 Sometimes, the best time to learn about hospice is before you need it.
