Therapy is so much more than just talking about your feelings.

Sometimes, therapy starts with learning how to cope with what’s happening right now—managing stress, solving problems, and finding healthier ways to navigate difficult emotions.

But beneath the surface, there is often deeper work happening too.

✨ Building self-awareness
✨ Exploring patterns and beliefs
✨ Understanding why we do what we do
✨ Healing past wounds
✨ Learning emotional regulation
✨ Building healthier relationships
✨ Strengthening self-trust
✨ Reframing unhelpful thoughts
✨ Finding clarity and direction

Therapy isn’t about “fixing” you. It’s about getting to know yourself, understanding your experiences, and creating meaningful change from the inside out.

In 2025, approximately 70,000 people in the United States died from drug overdose. Each person was loved, valued, and missed.

This , we honor them through remembrance, compassion, and evidence-based action.

Sometimes healing looks like something small. 🍁

A quiet moment.
A deep breath.
A reminder to slow down and notice what is right in front of you.

Like the changing seasons, we are constantly moving through different chapters. Some seasons feel heavy, uncertain, or overwhelming. Others bring growth, clarity, and new beginnings.

Wherever you are right now, you don’t have to have everything figured out.

Pause. Breathe. Be present.

Back-to-school mental health reminder for parents

The transition back to school can bring excitement, anxiety, stress, and big emotions—for kids and parents.

A few things to remember:

• Your child doesn’t have to be excited about school right away. Give them space to talk about what feels hard.
• Focus on connection before correction. Sometimes kids need to feel heard before they’re ready to problem-solve.
• Re-establish sleep, meal, and morning routines gradually. Predictability can help reduce anxiety.
• Look beyond behavior. Irritability, withdrawal, stomachaches, headaches, or school avoidance can sometimes be signs that a child is struggling emotionally.
• And parents—remember to take care of your own nervous system, too. Children often take cues from the adults around them.

A new school year doesn’t have to be perfect.
It just needs to be supported.

Setting a limit is often just the beginning.

We say, “It’s time to turn the screen off,” “We’re leaving now,” or “You can be angry, but I won’t let you hit” — and hope the limit will simply be accepted.

But children often need to move through the limit.

There might be pushback. Big feelings. Negotiating. Questions. Frustration.

Our job isn’t necessarily to make those feelings disappear. We can validate how hard it feels, stay curious about what’s going on, and hold the boundary at the same time.

Sometimes there’s room to problem-solve together. Sometimes there isn’t.

The goal isn’t instant compliance.

It’s helping children learn that limits and difficult feelings can be managed safely — with connection still intact.

Setting a limit is a process, not a moment.

More practical strategies for navigating boundaries, emotions and behaviour are in my book Guidance from The Therapist Parent. Link in bio.

The first year of motherhood comes with ups, downs, questions, and new experiences. Connecting with other moms can be a great way to learn, share, and build a community during this time.

Postpartum Support and Connection: Thriving Together in Motherhood is a welcoming, peer-led virtual group where moms across the region can come together to share their stories, celebrate milestones, and talk through the joys and challenges of motherhood.

This Dartmouth Health Children's group meets every Thursday from 6–7 p.m. on Webex and is open to all moms with children up to 1 year of age.
