The loneliness epidemic hits teens hard

In a world that feels constantly connected through screens, studies show teen loneliness is actually at an all-time high-even during the summer months when school is out.

Physical distance during the break can leave young people feeling isolated, but face-to-face connection makes all the difference.

How you can help your teen plug in this summer:

-Sports & Activities: Join a local rec league or pickup group

-Clubs & Hobbies: Find groups focused on shared creative interests

-Volunteering: Connect with peers while giving back locally

-Community Events: Bring them out to local youth gatherings like ours!

Building meaningful, in-person relationships gives teens a sense of purpose and support. Belonging changes everything.

How does your family stay connected during the summer? Share your ideas below!

The Blunt Truth: Ten Things Every Parent Needs to Know About Ma*****na is gaining traction, coming in at #5 on the Amazon Kindle bestseller list for parenting books last week.

Priced at $0.99, it is an accessible resource for anyone searching for information on today’s ma*****na, how it affects youth, the money behind the commercialization, and what parents can do to ensure their child is not the ma*****na industry’s next addicted customer. With over 650 citations and a focus on ma*****na policy and youth health, this book is also a great resource for teachers, health professionals, journalists, and legislators.

When Dr. Wiggins and I teamed up to write this book, selling copies was never the focus — educating parents was the goal and continues to be job #1. At $0.99 for an e-copy, this information is accessible to everyone. Please help pass along the word on your social media channels about this great offer, because this information is only as effective if people know about it.

Monday morning shift for you. Try trading "I have to do this" for "I get to do this" today and watch what happens in your mind. ☀️

That single word swap changes more than it sounds like it would. "Have to" puts your mind in obligation mode, scanning for the burden in everything. "Get to" flips the same task into an opportunity, and your mind actually engages differently depending on which frame you hand it.

This simply notices that most of what feels like obligation is actually access, without pretending hard things are easy. You get to have the job that pays your bills. You get to have the body that lets you move through your day. You get to have people who need you enough to ask something of you.

Reframe simply adds curiosity to the difficulty, and curiosity is what turns an experience into growth instead of just something you got through.

Pick one task today. Swap "have to" for "get to" and notice the shift. 🌤️

Taking responsibility isn't about being perfect.

It's about being honest when we mess up.

Most relationship conflicts escalate because we defend instead of owning our part.

These phrases aren't scripts to memorize.

They're examples of what real accountability sounds like when you're committed to your partnership over being right.

Like this if you needed to hear it today and follow for more real talk on relationships.

The Dysfunctional Narcissistic Family

Many will argue that a “narcissistic dysfunctional family” does not exist, but in fact, it does…

When one person’s need for control shapes the family system, other members may begin taking on predictable roles to survive it. These roles are not about labeling every family member. They are about recognizing patterns within dysfunctional family systems.

And sometimes, the person who has been labeled the problem is actually the person who has finally stopped participating in the problem.

As I discuss in my book, Family Is Not All That You Need, recognizing the role you were given can be the beginning of understanding what happened to you and deciding that you no longer have to play it.

You are not obligated to maintain a family system that requires you to lose yourself to belong.
