Parenting can be challenging, but support is available.

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence-based program designed for children ages 2–7 that helps strengthen the parent-child relationship while reducing behaviors like tantrums, defiance, aggression, and stress at home.

Through PCIT, families learn positive communication skills, build stronger connections, and create more confident, cooperative interactions together.

Our PCIT program also offers live coaching support during sessions:
Therapists provide real-time guidance through a “bug-in-ear” coaching device.
In Mecklenburg, families can participate in our newly designed PCIT room featuring a two-way mirror for live observation and coaching.

You do not have to already be in therapy services to participate in PCIT.

If you’re concerned about your child’s behavior or looking for extra support, we’re here to help.

Southside Behavioral Health recently hosted its 23rd 40-hour Core Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training, bringing together participants from local law enforcement agencies, Sheriff’s Offices, Hospital Security, and the Meherrin River Regional Jail (MRRJ).

This class reflects ongoing collaboration between law enforcement and mental health professionals dedicated to improving crisis response across Southside Virginia. CIT instructors, representing both fields, provide education on mental health, de-escalation strategies, and community resources to help individuals in crisis access the care they need while diverting them from unnecessary involvement in the criminal justice system.

Congratulations to all members of our 23rd graduating class! The next CIT Training will be held in September.

For more information about CIT Training, please contact Wanda C. Brock, Clinical Training Coordinator/CIT Coordinator, at 434-572-6916 ext. 1564.
