We're saddened to hear about the death of NUK student, Murry Foust. It is an unfortunate consequence of telling people that their rights aren't important, that they don't matter, and that their identity is invalid is that some of them will believe that the world is better off without them. Murry was valid. Merely in existing are we worthy of love and respect as individual human beings. If you or someone you know is struggling, resources are available.

We're launching a new program this summer! Sage Way will be offering a six-week series focusing on self-care for helping professions. We know that many of us who serve in roles where we focus on the needs of others, ignore our own. Helping professions deal with high rates of depression, anxiety, compassion fatigue, trauma, and burnout. We experience high levels of substance use, divorce and relationship issues, and sleep problems.

The goal of this program is to give you a six-week introduction to simple, actionable self-care and coping skills to help you address those symptoms and reduce stress. If you're a teacher, nurse, social worker, LEO, firefighter, social worker, CNA, DCS employee, DCS employee, family caregiver, or anyone else who finds themselves taking care of other people, this group is for you.

We have limited slots available so please email [email protected] or text 812-267-1201 to sign up today.

I'm a big fan of workbooks, even though I almost never use them in session. Weird statement, I know.

In session, I may occasionally use a workbook to help if clients are struggling with knowing what to talk about or where to start when it comes to self-discovery but I love workbooks as a self-guided option, whether in conjunction with therapy or even if you're not working with a therapist. As a therapist, I know it's strange to hear me advocate for navigating mental health challenges without professional interventions and while I think that the right person can help significantly, I also recognize the significant barriers to treatment. I'd rather see you at home, taking some quiet time and space to yourself, exploring your symptoms, learning new coping skills, and processing your experiences, than shoving all that stuff down until you explode and become unable to deal with your feelings in a healthy way.

This workbook comes from the "Instant Help Book For Teens" series. There are a ton of them ranging from helping with self-harming behaviors to improving self-esteem and you can find them on Amazon. I also like The Shadow Work Journal by Keila Shaheen to begin exploring trauma and deeply ingrained unhealthy habits, The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook by Dr.s McKay, Wood, and Brantley to help jump start a skills-based journey to address unhealthy coping skills and emotional dysregulation, and The Power of Two Workbook by Dr.s Heitler and Hirsch to help couples build stronger communication skills at any point in their relationship.
