A few moments from recent staff orientation ⛰️

We spent time connecting as a team, teaching and practicing field procedures, preparing for the season ahead, and welcoming new staff into the Blue Ridge community.

Grateful for a team that continues to show up with thoughtfulness, flexibility, and care for the work we do! 💙

As summer approaches, the loss of structure can make existing challenges more pronounced for teens.

Blue Ridge Therapeutic Wilderness is an outdoor therapeutic program for adolescents ages 12–18 who need a more structured, clinically integrated level of care during these transition periods.

Our model emphasizes early assessment, consistent routine, and real-time clinical support, with integrated family involvement throughout.

Summer can be a meaningful point of intervention when the right support is in place. Learn more at blueridgewilderness.com! 💙

“Our daughter attended Blue Ridge Therapeutic Wilderness about 2 years ago. It was a scary decision for us, but deciding to try a wilderness therapeutic program was the best choice we ever made.

Our daughter spent about 90 days with Blue Ridge, and it changed her life. Today, she is happier than ever. She is making good grades, has a part-time job she loves, is responsible and honest, and is proud of herself. We also have a great family relationship.

Blue Ridge was truly a transformation for our daughter and our family. We are forever grateful for the love, care, compassion, support, and counseling they provided.”

Yesterday, Regan’s group spent time in a creative intensive with Heather, which felt like a nice reset for everyone. They used paint pens to decorate flower pots, and a lot of personality came through in the designs.

Afterward, they planted marigolds, so each student now has something of their own to care for. Moving forward, they’ll take turns watering the porch plants each Sunday when they return to base. It was a simple, low-pressure activity, and the group really seemed to enjoy getting their hands in the dirt. 🌸🌻🌷

On Monday, Regan’s group spent some quiet, creative time watercoloring out on the porch. With a slower start to the day, students had the chance to settle in, focus, and express themselves in a different way. Some leaned into painting what they saw around them, while others let their imagination guide the brush.

It was a really grounding way to begin the day, offering space for creativity, reflection, and a little bit of calm before heading back out to the field. 🎨

Thank you to Student Care Coordinator Heather for these lovely photos!

Our newest field staff wrapped up orientation this week! 🥾

They spent time connecting as a team, dialing in safety protocols, strengthening their understanding of clinical support, and learning the day-to-day rhythm of the field.

Our field staff hike alongside students, facilitate groups, support students, and help create a steady, consistent environment. We’re grateful for this team and the care they bring into the field!

We’re seeing leadership, creativity, and engagement blossoming in our current boys’ group. Time in the field often includes sports, games, music, and hands-on skills like bowdrilling. When a student brings something like guitar into the group, it naturally creates moments of connection that feel simple and real.

There is also a strong hiking culture. Movement, shared challenges, and time outside continue to shape how students relate to themselves and each other. 🥾
