Neglected is the CDC's own word. Here is what it actually means. ๐
In 2010 the CDC formally designated five parasitic infections as Neglected Parasitic Infections. ๐ง
Neglected means three specific things. ๐
Underrecognized. ๐ด
Underdiagnosed. ๐ด
Undertreated. ๐ด
In the United States.
The five infections. ๐
Toxoplasmosis. Chagas disease. Cysticercosis. Toxocariasis. Trichomoniasis.
Combined estimates. Over 60 million Americans carry at least one without knowing. ๐ฎ
In 2021 the American Family Physician confirmed these infections are typically not emphasized in medical training. ๐ณ
Not a conspiracy. A curriculum gap the CDC itself documented.
Standard panels do not screen for them. โ
Symptoms get attributed to stress or aging. โ
The infections continue. The diagnosis does not happen. โ
That is what neglected means. ๐ฅ
Drop a comment and tell me what you are dealing with. I read every one. ๐
