💬 Ask a Hospice Nurse

Hospice can come with a lot of questions, and sometimes it’s hard to know who to ask.

What does hospice actually provide? When is the right time to consider it? Can you keep your own doctor? What happens if symptoms get worse? What if you change your mind?

Our nurses are here to help make hospice a little less confusing.

👇🏻 Drop your hospice question in the comments, or send us a private message. We’ll be answering your questions in upcoming posts!

No question is too simple. If you’ve wondered it, chances are another family has too. 💙

Grandma said WHAT? 👵🏻

We all grew up hearing those sayings that made perfect sense to Grandma, even if they didn’t make much sense to anyone else. 😂

🚪“Close that door! We’re not air-conditioning the whole neighborhood!”
🫤 “You better wipe that look off your face.”
💅 “Pretty is as pretty does.”

We want to hear yours!

Finish the sentence in the comments:

“My grandma (or grandpa) always used to say…”

Funny, sweet, strange, or simply unforgettable; we want to hear them all. 🤍

Hospice Questions You May Be Nervous to Ask
Part 3 🤍

“Will hospice make my loved one sleep all the time?”

This is a very real concern for families, and one you should never feel uncomfortable asking.

Hospice isn’t about taking away the good moments. Our goal is to manage pain and other symptoms while helping your loved one remain comfortable, alert, and present whenever their condition allows.

If you ever feel like a medication is making your loved one too sleepy, please tell us.
Your observations matter.
Your concerns matter.
You are a vital part of your loved one’s care.

There are no questions you should be afraid to ask us. 🤍

Yesterday, Grand Hospice was proudly represented at The LinkD Network – South Dallas Chapter, where our own Mariela was invited to serve as the August featured speaker.

Her topic, “How to Tap Into Your Unique Superpower,” centered on authenticity, leadership, and the importance of investing in people, not simply building businesses.

One message from her presentation captures it perfectly:

“I build people, so they can go out and build a business.

People are not drawn to perfection.
They are drawn to authenticity.

The leaders who truly change lives are not the ones pretending to have it all together. They are the ones brave enough to fully show up as themselves.”

— Mariela Heffel

That message aligns with what we believe at Grand Hospice: people come first. When we invest in people, encourage their strengths, and give them room to lead authentically, stronger teams and stronger communities follow.

We’re proud of Mariela for representing Grand Hospice and grateful to The LinkD Network – South Dallas Chapter for the opportunity to share, connect, and build relationships within our community. 💙

This Texas heat doesn’t play around. 🥵

And when your days are spent driving across DFW and caring for others, it’s easy to forget to take care of yourself.

So this week, we treated the Grand team to Starbucks, with one catch:
whatever you order,
grab a Venti water too. 💧

A little caffeine, a LOT of hydration, and a reminder for all of us:

Take care of yourself so you can keep showing up for the people who need you. 💙

🌟 We’re excited to celebrate Mariela Heffel as the August Speaker for The LinkD Network – South Dallas Chapter!

Mariela will be sharing “How to Tap Into Your Unique Superpower” this Thursday, August 27th.

As a co-founder and Patient Advocate at Grand Hospice, Mariela brings a heart for leadership, connection, and advocacy, especially when it comes to changing the conversation around hospice and helping families understand that choosing hospice isn’t giving up. It’s choosing comfort, dignity, support, and love. 💙

We’re proud to see Mariela representing Grand Hospice and sharing her passion with other leaders in our community!

Hospice Questions You May Be Nervous to Ask:
Part 2 💙

A common fear we hear is: “If I choose hospice, does that mean I can’t go back to the hospital?”

The short answer is no.

Hospice doesn’t take away your choices. Instead, it gives you an experienced, compassionate team available 24/7 to call when something changes.
Oftentimes, we can manage symptoms and provide the care you need right where you are, without the stress of an unnecessary ER visit.

When you’re unsure what to do, call your Grand Hospice care team first. We’ll help you understand what’s happening, what your options are, and what comes next.

Hospice isn’t about having fewer choices. It’s about having more support when making them. 💙

✨ Meet Krista, the one who keeps Grand running behind the scenes.

Every great care team needs someone making sure the details are handled, the team is supported, and the million little things that happen each day don’t fall through the cracks.

For Grand Hospice, that person is Krista Bilow, our Office Manager. 💙

Krista brings organization, dependability, and a whole lot of heart to our office. Whether she’s helping a team member, solving a problem, or keeping our day-to-day operations moving, she plays an important part in making sure our team can stay focused on what matters most: caring for our patients and their families.

We’re so thankful Krista is part of the Grand family. ✨

When a serious illness progresses, families are often left wondering:
Is it time for hospice?

At Grand Hospice, we’re here to bring clarity, compassion, and support to that moment. 🤍

Below are eight of the most common diagnoses that may lead to hospice eligibility.

It’s important to know that eligibility isn’t based on diagnosis alone. Comfort, daily function, and quality of life all matter, too.

We walk beside families every step of the way, helping you understand your options and choose the care that best aligns with your goals.

If you’re unsure whether it may be time, we’re here to help.
Gently. Clearly. Without pressure.
