Today's word is Nemesis. This term emerged in 1570s as the Greek goddess of vengeance. Indeed, its origin exists as “ nemein”(distribution), in other words, “ give what is due.” But, it wasn't until 1930 it has acquired the general sense of retribution.
However, this philosophic entity that was coined by Aristotle at the time encompassed three different connotations. On the one hand, it stands as the feeling of pain caused by others, and on the other hand, the sensation of others’ pain, and not least but last, one who feels pain caused by any pleasure. Yet, this noun represents retribution or vengeance, a victorious opponent very hard to defeat, and a sense of harm, namely a curse.
This concept, according to the French denotes not only retribution in general but also justice in terms of jealousy, anger, and divine vengeance. Even though the Greek religion has Themis as the goddess of justice meaning wisdom, good counsel, and the representation of the gods will. In reality, in order to be the nemesis of someone or something a situation, an event, or a person can produce harm as punishment. For instance, retaking a Math test can be your nemesis, likewise your rival or opponent.
In political terms, a nemesis can be a person or thing that is difficult to defeat or achieve respectively. It can represent sometimes a long standing- rival, what is called arch enemy. Finally, a word uttered by a careless politician can be his nemesis or downfall.

Today's word is Tribalism. This term cropped up in 1868 as “ a condition of being a tribe.” But in terms of paleontology and under the influence of exaptation, this entity has evolved into “ group loyalty,” which was certified in 1955.
Generally speaking, tribalism stands as a deep loyalty toward one's tribe and ethnic group accompanied with the rejection of others. Under a sociological cover, it encompasses customs and beliefs transmitted from generation to generation enacted into groups animated with the same strong and favorable feelings for themselves and aversion for others. But besides customs and traditions, it is often said that tribal groups and communities are gathered under the same ancestor, which is somewhat unpopular.
In a demographic insight, in South Africa, the Zulu tribe that has reportedly been around since the 16th century remains the largest with approximately 3.2 millions members. It is also called the Zulu nation since it has been like the Indian nation capable of governing all matters with respect to their members.
Still, the term tribe can be a pejorative one because of violence apart from colonialism that has been attached to the meaning. However, most of the violent tribes have been uncontacted so far for instance the Sentinelese, a tribe in the Bay of Bengal has had seven brutal and hostile encounters with the surrounding inhabitants. In addition, the Brazilian tribes have been on the list perhaps to marginalize them since they seem to have legitimate concerns regarding their lands.
Today's way of life has made reference to any social group with a strong identity a tribe in terms of nations, religions, ethnicity, and politics. For being a negative aspect, it has insinuated fears, anxiety, bigotry that make us more susceptible to conflicts. Despite the value of education, in modern tribalism human beings have been made to live with a type of neotribalism that calls trouble for some nations infested with gangs in the pursuit of survival.
As to illustration, tribalism had some benefits for human evolution and because we are social animals and not well-equipped, life in isolation is meaningless, we need to bond together in order to survive. However, unfortunately what we see in tribal community usually is poverty and exploitation, a socio-political paralysis, economic and technological stagnation and difficulty of assimilation with the diaspora.

Today's word is Detente.This term came to light in the early 20th century just before World War I when France and Germany tried to cool off their tensions. However, the etymology is borrowed from the French “ detente”(loosenIng, slacking) by way of Latin” detendita, detendere,” which stood literally for stretch away from.
Primarily, detente represents the easing of tensions and the relaxation of strained relationships, especially between countries. However, it is used rarely in mechanics as a part utilized to start or stop a movement, namely in a clock.
In political terms, it allows the easiness of tensions mainly by verbal communication. Indeed, it is the name that was given to the period of improved relations between the United States and the Soviet Union, President Richard Nixon, and Secretary general Leonid Brezhnev in 1971. In addition, that meaningful relationship during the cold war has accomplished SALT I(Strategic Arms Limitation Talks I), SALT II, the Anti-Ballistic missile, and the Helsinki Accords, which was the final act with the signing of rejection of any use of force. Other examples of detente encompass the Presidents Barack Obama and Raul Castro meeting, in Havana, Cuba, in March 2016 and Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un summit, in Hanoi, in February 2019.

Concerning illustrations, detente, in reality, did not end the cold war but allowed the superpowers to communicate and lead to the signing of nuclear nonproliferation. Moreover, it increased diplomatic relations, commercial activities and, social-cultural bonds which were attested by the Hockey game between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R., in 1980 when the former wan by upsetting the latter. However, detente did not last long because both parties overestimated the outcome and nuclear arms control has not been accomplished yet.

Today's word is Shock. This term arose in the mid 16th century from French “ choc” as a military notion meaning” violent encounter of armed forces or a pair of warriors.”But it wasn't til the mid fifties when Kalervo Oberg, a Canadian Anthropolgist, coined the expression “ Culture Shock,” a theoretical construct which is defined as a type of anxiety brought to someone due to the fact they face suddenly a different culture.
Primarily, shock represents an abrupt” upsetting or surprising event or experience.” In addition, it stands as a jolt in “ electric shock,” a disturbance in case of economic disaster, and in medicine as a condition associated with a sudden decrease of blood due to loss of blood, fluid, infection, or allergies.
Generally, individuals exposed to a culture shock can develop and experience “ future shock,” a state of distress caused by rapid social and technological changes. In other words, it comes with the time when greatly accelerated changes in society causes angst and even physical damage because of “ to much change in too short period of time.”
However, some people are more vulnerable than others, especially the elderlies who usually show fear of change, resentment, denial and mistrust toward their advisers or counselors. The reason can be found in physical or health problems, cognitive function disorders, or a lack of social networking. From a purely psychological point of view, with age, it may become harder to alter behaviors but with perseverance and persistence it is often noticed that they will accept and at times embrace changes through direct coping, that is to say, a focused confrontation and management of what is the main cause of the discomfort.
As to illustration, future shock can be alleviated by unplugging from the world and relaxing with nature, so to speak. In addition, one should pay attention to our feelings or our body's responses to future changes. In short, enjoy the moment wherever you are or whatever you do and don't think about the future that is in essence not certain.

Today's word is Stagflation. This term was echoed for the first time in 1965 by a British politician, Iain Macleod, as a “stagflation situation.” This hybrid effect of inflation and stagnation stems as a period of economic slowdown that coincides with joblessness and increased price.
In economics, stagflation entails a situation where stagnation, a slowdown of the economy combined with inflation, an increase in price of goods and services. This entity is also called recession-inflation because unemployment remains steadfastly elevated. It can be the result of supply shock, an unexpected event in the supply of product which changes prices, also supply chain disturbance and bad fiscal and monetary policies, high spending, and low-interest rates.
Case in point, the 1970 stagflation was due to the government policies and the oil shock imposed by a Saudi Arabia and other oil- producing countries because the U.S. and other countries supported Israel during the 1973 Yom Kippur war. This embargo conjures memories of long lines at the gas station and factories' closure.
Meanwhile, in the U.S. economists still believe the economy can escape stagflation even though it shrank by 1.5% during the first quarter. But the problems are amassing at the horizon, namely the supply chain debacle, the war in Ukraine, spreading inflation through the States, and the increased appetite for foreign goods. As a result, the Federal Government could become in the mood of aggressively increasing interest rates to restrain growth and therefore try to curb inflation, which can adversely induce a recession.

Today's word is Venture. This term was heard for the first time in the 1400s as a variant of “ adventure” with the significance of risk and chance. It is derived from the Latin “venire”(to come) and the Anglo-Saxon “venture” as a noun meaning “risky undertaking” and as a verb in the general sense of to dare and to presume in and around the mid-16th century.
Generally speaking, venture encompasses as per its origin two main connotations. As a verb it entails, on the one hand, to dare or to take a chance of doing something, and on the other hand, to express or offer something tentatively with the possibility of being embarrassed. Whereas, as a noun, it stands simply for risk or undertaking of doing something such as exposing money or properties in a project.
As a paradigm, business venture rhymes with enterprise or speculation so to speak because of the risk-taking attitude and the hope of profit. Someone is taking a chance when they venture out into an enterprise for the reason that a loan can default and cash or property could be lost. A word of caution is not to confuse ventures with start-ups that are usually backed up by angel companies and venture capitalists in their endeavors.
To illustrate further, venture capital which is a form of private equity and a type of financing allocated to startups has the advantages of raising a large amount of money and having managerial and technical support. However, its founders' stakes are reduced and funding can be difficult to obtain and therefore scarce.

Today's word is Adhocracy. This term was coined fairly recently in 1968 by Warren Bennis, an American Scholar, who is considered to be a pioneer in leadership judging by his book entitled Temporary Society. Subsequently, it has evolved into a business model that has been adopted by a series of internet organizations. Originally, it derived from the Latin “ Ad hoc”( for this), which has been utilized frequently as “ for this situation only,” in other words for a special purpose without anticipation.
Generally speaking, Adhocracy represents an organization or a business management that has little or no structure, contrary to bureaucracy which is based on well-defined rules and hierachies. In addition, it stands for the need of the moment, individual initiative, flexibility and self-organized enterprises.
This type of American culture allows creation and innovation through tech companies and most start-ups. To be more specific, this corporate culture which offers the opportunity to adapt quickly and to act on instinct in terms of changing conditions can be seen at Apple, Facebook and Google without omitting Tesla, for instance. All these companies prosper with adhocratic values, and by the same token help maintain the American socioeconomic standard. Moreover, NASA exemplified that business model whose main purpose was to land on the moon under a deadline, without ingenuity, brainstorming, flexibility, and rapidity it would have been far-fetched as a pressing priority.
About illustrations, adhocracy is almost always successful where the money is from the start, which allows the acquisition of young and fresh entrepreneurs at their pic who are not reticent about pushing the envelope, so to speak. As a rule, adhocracy favors individuality and risk-taking. However, the latter can be risky because not all enterprises reach the mountain top, in other words get to be successful.

The term aura was borne out of Latin and Greek in the late 14th century as a “ cool breeze, air in motion,” in other words a cool breeze of fresh air in terms of extrapolation. About metaphoric interpretations, this entity has amassed successively: in 1732, physically” an aroma or subtil motion,” in 1859, “ a characteristic impression “ made by and individual, and finally, in 1870,” an emanation around living beings,” in relation with spiritualism.
Indeed, aura encompasses three main connotations. Fundamentally, it entails an invisible breath or emanation that the French assimilate at a type of impalpable energy around any living beings, namely human, animals, or plants. However, it can also denotes, on the one hand, a distinctive quality or atmosphere around them and , on the other in medicine as a human subjective sensation such as the vision of colored lights or crawling sensations on the skin before some neurologic events, namely headache, epilepsy, anxiety, and even language difficulties.
When someone embodies a quality or characteristic that seems to radiate, an aura can be underlined, such as the case of Bill Gates or Warren Buffet who has an aura of generosity by giving away most of their fortunes to charity. Not to forget Mother Theresa who spent most of her life caring for the poor and the destitute. But on the spiritual side, aura can be sensed when you entered a room where you instantly feel weird or uncomfortable.
As an inference about illustration, aura nowadays has been divided into four different types, and it was popularized in the 1900s by a priest, Charles Webster. As a result of his effort, a human design can stand as a manifestor, generator, projector, or reflector. All those types would make you interact with the world around you in a different way.

Today's word is Eavesdrop. This term spurred in 1600 as a hidden place near a location where someone can hear what is said inside. However, it could have been also an individual under the eaves of a building spying. Still, this verb originated from the old Norse (Scandinavian)”upsardropi” which evolved into “eavesdrop” during the Middle English era.
Yet, its origination has been controversial at best. First, it was the water coming from the eaves, then the water heating the ground, and finally, it has come to signify justifiably someone who listens to a conversation while in the house's eaves.
Throughout, Eavesdrop denotes “ secretly listen to a conversation,” in other words, monitor a conversation, which is tantamount to spying. Over the years, with the advent of the electronic era, eavesdropping has been not only the regular “ man in the middle listening,” namely the regular wiretapping but also Wi-Fi interception and malware monitoring.
Fortunately, there exists a federal law enacted in 1986 and entitled “ Electronic Communications Privacy Act,” which prohibits the secret recording of a conversation between two individuals. Most States are against eavesdropping, but some of them choose to make the law more stringent. For instance, New York makes it a felony to intrude secretly into a telephone conversation between two people without obtaining consent from at least one.

This term, Buffoon, stemmed from the French”bouffon” and Italian”buffone” in the mid-16th century, especially as a type of pantomime dance in which the performers expressed meaning
through gestures in the 1560s and professional jokers in the 1590s. Originally from the medieval era, it came from a Latin “buffare,” meaning to puff out, that is to say, to feel the cheeks with air, mainly at the theater. Indeed when the person received a blow, they would make a great noise provoking a big laugh from the spectators.
Generally speaking, a buffoon represents a ridiculous but funny individual. In other words, as a noun, it stands for incompetent, idiot, or fool. For instance, someone who always tries to be funny in class or to attract romantically, namely a joke, a jerk, a laughingstock, or a dupe, deserves to be called a buffoon.
However, in colloquialism or the vernacular sense, buffoon entails a gross and stupid self that portends as ridiculous. But according to the Oxford lexicon, a buffoon encompasses people who do silly things that make everyone laughs.
Nonetheless, if you hear the French-speaking people convey Bouffon instead of buffoon in English, it is because a “modern French theater utilizes bouffon that was re-coined by Jacques Lecoq, a stage actor, and acting movement coach who adopted the meaning of grotesque mockery in the early 1660s. Traditionally, it denoted a reversed- clowning in which the character laughed at the audience instead of being an actual clown to whom the viewers laughed.
