Excited is an understandment.
😱
In this workshop, we will explore what we call prep postures, prop exercises, add-ons, or EXTRAS for The Primary and Intermediate Series. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga includes postures that can be challenging without adequate preparation. Each of our bodies is different and how we spend our time off of the mat is different. In theory, the sequences progressively ready the body and mind for the coming work, but that is not necessarily what happens practically.
👀
Please join on Tuesday, June 9th, 6-7:30 pm .cle. We will flow through a short warm-up and then work through the extras, making sure that each student leaves with an individual plan they can implement. This will be accessible whether you know already the sequences, though it would be helpful to familiarize oneself with the postures.

This week, Saturday, May 9th, Coffee and Conversation, we will be discussing worth. In particular, self-worth. Which seems paradoxical since the self does not exist and is an image we create, spending a lot of energy protecting it at all costs. This will be a good one for sure.
🧐
Our inherent worth as being alive is the heart of who we are. It is the intrinsic, deep belief that we are lovable and valuable, deserving respect and consideration as human beings. We matter because we are, in a child-like sense. Wonder if our goal should not be to feel good about ourselves. Hear me out. Because feelings are fleeting. Can we be kind to ourselves, not because of anything we have done externally (self-esteem)? Compassion towards ourselves impacts greatly how others experience us, and in turn how others treat themselves. It is all connected. A river is formed by the terrain through which it flows.

This week, Saturday, April 25th, Coffee and Conversation, we are talking joy and laughter. This, out of our discussion last week on play.
🤸‍♀️
Laughter is the expression of joy. Simple. Yet, like play, we adults can so easily miss it. It is important to know the people and places that bring lightness to our world. Who make us smile and laugh.
😂
Sukha is the Sanskrit word for ease, happiness, or joy, coming from su (good) kha (place or hole) for a smooth ride from a balanced axle. Muditā is the Sanskrit word for sympathetic joy. A surefire way to touch delight is to feel it for others' joy. Being happy that they are happy. It is especially true when we find it hard to know joy with ourselves.
🛞
Delight has surfaced in many areas in my world for differing reasons. No matter how challenging things are, whether outside or inside, to survive, we must touch delight, joy, and laughter.

Last week, I made an executive decision to choose the topic for this week, Saturday, April 11th, Coffee and Conversation. The group agreed without reluctance.
🤗
The topic is... Play. A state of being free outside of ordinary life. Self-chosen intrinsically motivated, imaginative, means not ends, where time is suspended.
🤸‍♀️
A close idea from the Sanskrit word adbhuta, meaning wonder, extraordinary, marvelous, awe, magic, mystery. And the word lčlā, divine play, pure joy with no purpose, instinctive, natural, intuitive, effortless. We are always creating and dissolving. The world is a stage. We are the actors.
👥️
At least two of our daily walks, me and Sweet Penelope Love, the puppy I now share in life, are meanders, sniffaris, aimless with no destination, strolls, wanderings. In French, it is flâner, to saunter with a sense of pleasure and curiosity.
🚶‍♀️🐾
We need all of it to thrive. Even when, especially when the world is harsh. Let us see where this discussion goes.

As a result of our conversation last week on perspectives and how we see goodness and badness, this week, on Saturday, April 11th, in Coffee and Conversation, we will discuss our tendencies and predispositions. The plan is to spend time talking about how we uproot patterns of thinking and acting.
🧠
Saṃskāra is a Sanskrit word that means actions joined together; vāsanā is a cluster of saṃskāra. Action (karma) leads to impressions (saṃskāra) which lead to tendencies (vāsanā) that lead to thought patterns or churnings of the mind (vṛttis). Our aim might be to dissolve or clear the mind, so we are not driven by unconscious grooves. Our dispositions affect our perception of the world. This week, we are looking at how we can unstick, uproot, or smooth the grooves.
