Two people can eat the exact same meal and absorb a different number of calories from it. Part of the difference comes down to gut bacteria.

Part of what you eat is not digestible by you at all - only by the bacteria in your large intestine.

They break it down, and depending on which bacteria you have, hand back more or fewer calories for your body to absorb. Some bacteria are very efficient at pulling energy out of food. Others let more of it pass through.

If you have ever eaten about the same as someone else and watched your bodies respond completely differently, this is part of why - and it has nothing to do with willpower or how hard either of you is trying.

This mix is not fixed. It begins shifting quickly with what you feed it, and the biggest lever is the number of different plants you eat in a week, not the amount. A wider range of plant fiber builds a wider range of bacteria.

So weight is not only about how much you eat. It is partly about which bacteria are doing the digesting, and that can change.

Eating the same handful of vegetables every week is quietly limiting how well your immune system can calm down.

Here's the actual mechanism: your gut bacteria eat plant fiber. Different bacteria prefer different fibers. When they break that fiber down, they produce compounds that "talk" to your immune cells - telling them when to respond and when to stand down.

More variety in what you eat means more variety of bacteria, which means more of these calming compounds get made.

When your diet narrows - same few foods on repeat - fewer bacteria get fed, and fewer of these compounds get produced.

Without them, your immune system runs less regulated. It can start overreacting to things that were never actually a problem - foods, your environment, even your own tissue.

The number of vegetables on your plate matters less than how many different ones show up across your week.

How many different vegetables did you actually eat this week? Most people are surprised how short the real list is.

A slow Saturday is immune support too. Chronic stress suppresses immune function, and genuine downtime is when the system catches up.

Vitamin D is not just a vitamin - it is a signal your immune cells rely on to work well. Levels dip as summer sun fades, so early fall is a good time to check yours and keep them where your body wants them.

This is one of the few products I'd say almost anyone could benefit from adding into their daily routine.

Most gut support products target one piece: a probiotic, a fiber blend, an L-glutamine powder.

But gut health runs through five interconnected systems: the barrier, the lining, the microbiome, immune signaling in the gut, and the gut-brain connection. Support one and leave the others behind, and progress stalls.

CoreMend GI by CellCore was built to address all five at once, in one daily stick:

โœง ๐—•๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ฟ - L-glutamine, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, and zinc L-carnosine work at the cellular, structural, and protective level๏ฟฝ

It's formulated with BioActive Carbon Technology, a fulvic acid complex that supports cellular repair, aids natural detox processes, and stabilizes the other ingredients through digestion so more of them actually reach the gut instead of breaking down before they get there.

I mix mine into a morning smoothie most days, not as a reaction to a flare-up, but as a proactive daily layer. It's built to be used long term - useful during an active rebuild phase, and just as useful for years of maintenance afterward.

Orange cream flavor, zero sugar, zero dairy, zero gluten, dissolves in water or a smoothie in seconds.

Whether you're actively rebuilding your gut or just want a proactive daily layer of support, this is worth asking about.

Muscle is part of your immune reserve. When you are fighting something off, your body draws on it to build immune cells - one more reason strength matters past the number on the scale.

You ate cooked tomatoes for years without a problem. Then one day, your body started treating them like a threat.

Your immune system stopped recognizing it as safe - that's what changed.

We think of immunity as an army built to attack. A large part of its real job is deciding what to leave alone.

Every day it meets things that aren't threats - your food, your own tissue, the trillions of bacteria you depend on. Recognizing them and standing down is a skill called tolerance, and it takes ongoing effort to maintain.

When tolerance is working, your body handles a wide range of foods and environments without a second thought.

When it slips, false alarms start - new reactions to foods that were always fine, or a system that stays warm and reactive for no clear reason.

Tolerance is trained largely in the gut - through the same bacterial activity that decides whether a reaction builds or stays contained.

If a food has started bothering you, the timeline is worth noting. A reaction that showed up suddenly points somewhere different than one that's been building for months - and that distinction alone narrows down what's actually driving it.

What's one food that used to be fine for you and isn't anymore?

Your gut lining is where your body meets the outside world most constantly - everything you eat passes through it.

So it is also where the immune system does most of its daily decision-making: what to absorb, what to ignore, what to react to.

The bacteria living there are not passive residents. They produce compounds that directly train the immune cells responsible for keeping the response measured.

When those bacteria are diverse and well fed, that training signal is strong and the system stays regulated.

When the range narrows - from a repetitive diet, stress, or a round of antibiotics - the signal weakens, and the immune system loses some of its instruction to stay calm.

This is why gut health and immune health are not two separate projects. They are the same one.

What does the variety on your plate actually look like in a normal week - not the volume, the range?
