Preparing for an interview can feel overwhelming, but a little preparation can go a long way. UH Recruiter Sara C. recommends taking time to learn about the organization, understand the role, and come ready to engage in meaningful conversation.

"Research the history of an organization. Review trends of the organization that you would like to join. Read the job description so you can be prepared to answer the questions in the interview. Have 5 questions prepared for the interviewer. Make sure your social media is clean and respectful."

Growth isn’t just encouraged at University Hospitals, it’s part of the journey.

Holly’s nursing journey began in 2000 when she graduated high school and earned her LPN at the same time. While working in Med Surg, she continued her education, earning her ADN in 2003 before beginning her career as an RN in the Emergency Department in 2004. Her commitment to professional development continued as she earned her BSN in 2017, all while building a rewarding career in emergency nursing. Since 2009, Holly has been caring for patients in the Samaritan Emergency Department, where she continues to make a difference every day.

Holly’s passion for nursing was inspired at an early age through helping care for a cousin born with birth defects, as well as by the example set by her mother and aunts, who were nurses themselves. Throughout her career, she has been grateful for the mentorship and support of fellow nurses who helped shape her into the clinician she is today.

What continues to inspire Holly after more than two decades in nursing? A culture of learning and growth. She shares that she considers every shift successful when she learns something new, and she finds fulfillment in sharing her knowledge with student nurses and helping them grow in their own careers.

Holly’s story is a testament to the opportunities available at University Hospitals, from advancing your education and expanding your skills to learning from incredible colleagues along the way.

At University Hospitals, we’re committed to investing in the ongoing growth and success of our people. People such as Lauren R., Nursing Director at UH MacDonald Women’s Hospital and OB Hospital Services. When Lauren began her nursing career at UH, working in nurse leadership wasn’t necessarily at the top of her mind. As Lauren recalls, “I found so much joy in being part of one of the most memorable moments in a family’s life, I felt like I would just continue in this role. It was the belief others had in me—seeing something I couldn’t yet see in myself—that inspired me to step into a new way of serving nursing and my community, away from the bedside.”

Since joining UH, Lauren has grown from a unit-based manager into a system-level leader and an expert in how culture, operations, and equity intersect. Lauren says, “My time at UH has strengthened my ability to lead with clarity, build collaborative teams, and design workflows that truly support patients and staff. I’ve learned to think more strategically, communicate more intentionally, and advocate more boldly—especially for vulnerable populations and the teams who care for them.”

We’re proud to have supported Lauren at every step of her career journey. Through our UHLAP program, Employee Resource Groups, Lean Six Sigma training and Case Executive leadership program, we’ve provided Lauren with the resources to continually develop her capabilities and confidence.

Mentoring has also been key to Lauren’s growth. As Lauren says, “I'm very fortunate to have leaders within the organization who have helped me and advocated for me when I'm not in the room. My growth has been shaped by mentors who trusted me early, challenged me thoughtfully, and modeled the kind of leader I’d like to become.”
