I don’t know anyone who said, “Yeah, I want to give birth when hospitals are locked down because of a global pandemic!”
✨Your ability to come and go is restricted.
✨Your ability to have visitors is restricted.
✨Your personal space is invaded by needing to be Covid swabbbed upon triage and laboring in a mask.
✨You’re made to chose between your partner and your doula?!? ✋🏽 Full. Stop.
👉🏽 For bipoc moms, especially, the circumstances are dire. “I’d rather just give birth at home, but insurance doesn’t cover it and I can’t afford it. But if I give birth at a hospital without my doula, will I be safe? Will I be treated fairly?”
In the words of Rosa Parks, .
Mommas, get with your doula and make your voice heard. My clients and I pushed for policy change at an area hospital and within two weeks it was open to doulas again. .
