✈️🩸 Traveling doesn’t have to mean blood sugar spikes, energy crashes, and cravings!

Whether you’re heading to the airport, hitting the road, or taking a summer vacation, a little planning can help keep your blood sugar stable and your energy steady. 💪

✅ Don’t skip meals
✅ Pack protein-rich snacks
✅ Pair carbs with protein or healthy fats
✅ Stay hydrated
✅ Avoid relying on sugary airport and gas station foods

Some of my favorite blood sugar-friendly travel snacks include:
🥜 Nuts & seeds
🍎 Apple + almond butter
🧀 Cheese sticks
🥚 Hard-boiled eggs
🥩 Beef jerky
🥕 Veggies + hummus

Remember: Avoid eat carbs alone! Pairing carbohydrates with protein, fiber, or healthy fats can help reduce blood sugar spikes and keep you feeling satisfied longer. 🙌

💙 Happy Father’s Day to the amazing father of our family—Bryan! 💙

From the moment I met him, I knew he’d be a wonderful dad, especially seeing how he cared for his siblings—second oldest of eight! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦❤️ Watching him interact with our nieces and nephews before we had kids was just a preview. Now, seeing him with Gianna and Jonah, I know we are beyond blessed. 🥰✨ (just had to go back to those first hospital pics 🥹)

We’ve spent the past few weekends celebrating with family photos with Sonya Ewing Photography 📸, quality time together ❤️, and soaking up all the beauty of the season ☀️🌿.

One highlight was a special outing with my in-laws to see a C.S. Lewis play at Playhouse Square Playhouse Square 🎭. Dinner at The Friar’s Table The Friars’ Table afterward inspired me—those cold summer salads with green beans, asparagus, and perfectly cooked salmon? 🥗🐟 Absolutely delicious and full of summer inspiration!

We wrapped up the weekend with a lovely brunch at my in-laws’ home 🍽️🏡 and enjoyed simply being together in the sunshine. ☀️💛

Cheers to Bryan, my dad, father in law, our Godfathers and Godfathers to our children and all the fathers and father figures who shape our lives with love, strength, and guidance—today and every day. 💙👔

Thanks Seph Schlueter for creating such a beautiful song 🎶

✨ For me, working out isn’t about fitting into some ideal image or chasing a certain look. My biggest motivation is my health—specifically, managing my metabolic health💪

When I move my body, it’s about supporting my blood sugar, my hormones, and my overall well-being. ❤️

It’s empowering to focus on what my body can do and how it feels on the inside rather than how it looks on the outside.

To be able to pick up my kids & keep up with them, they are 40 and 30 pounds each and I’m proud that if necessary I can pick them both up at the same time to carry them - that’s been my non scale victory! 🙌

This is about vitality, longevity, and truly feeling my best. 🌿

✨ That’s the journey I’m on.

My morning routine is one of my favorite - it’s my time for prayer, movement & fuel. Whether it’s getting in a walk on my treadmill, using my walking pad, or heading outside for some fresh air 🚶‍♀️☀️, movement is a priority for me every day. Or I’ll hit play on one of my favorite Healthy Catholic Moms workouts that I can finish in just 20 minutes 🙌. No matter what I choose, I always feel better afterward!

💖 Movement is medicine, and every step is an investment in my future.

☀️ Morning Sunlight + Gratitude: A Simple Metabolic Habit Stack

Did you know that what you do in the first 10 minutes of your day can impact your blood sugar, cravings, and metabolism? This is something I’m personally trying to work on doing more of for my own health!

☀️ Morning Sunlight
Getting 5–15 minutes of sunlight soon after waking helps:
✔️ Regulate your circadian rhythm
✔️ Lower cortisol at the appropriate time of day
✔️ Improve insulin sensitivity
✔️ Support better sleep (which helps blood sugar control)
✔️ Increase energy and metabolic efficiency

💛 Gratitude Practice
Taking a few moments to focus on gratitude can:
✔️ Reduce stress and chronic cortisol elevation
✔️ Improve nervous system balance
✔️ Decrease emotional eating and cravings
✔️ Support healthier blood sugar responses
✔️ Enhance overall well-being and resilience

🌿 Try This Morning Routine:
1. Step outside within 30–60 minutes of waking.
2. Take a few deep breaths.
3. Write down 3 things you’re grateful for.
4. Enjoy your protein-rich breakfast.

Small daily habits can have a powerful impact on your hormones, metabolism, and long-term health.

🚨 Before you order a Crumbl Dirty Soda, you may want to know how much sugar is actually in it 👀

Some flavors contain up to 🚨150–180+ grams of sugar in a single drink 🥤 That’s more added sugar than most people should consume in an entire week.

For perspective:
👩 Women are recommended to stay under 25g of added sugar per day.
👨 Men are recommended to stay under 36g of added sugar per day.

What happens when you drink that much sugar?

⬆️ Blood sugar spikes
⬆️ Insulin surges
⬆️ Cravings
⬇️ Energy crashes
🍽️ Increased hunger a few hours later

If you have insulin resistance, PCOS/PMOS, prediabetes, or are trying to lose weight, drinks like these can send glucose soaring and keep it elevated for hours - which can keep your body in fat storing mode due to the insulin spike.

Although I recommend avoiding sugary drinks for metabolic health. If you want to reduce the blood sugar impact if you decide to try one?

✅ Choose a zero-sugar soda base
✅ Use sugar-free syrups when available
✅ Skip extra sweet cream
✅ Add fresh lime or lemon for flavor
✅ Order the smallest size available

💡 Remember: liquid sugar is absorbed quickly and often has a bigger impact on blood sugar than many people realize. It’s not just soda - this can also be applied to tea and coffee drinks, fruit smoothies, juice etc.
