Mickey Wayne Vardaman

Mickey Wayne Vardaman, age 71, of Hollandale, MS passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2026 at his home.

Mickey was born on August 17, 1955 to Milton T. Vardaman and Martha Ann Ellis Vardaman in Rosedale, MS.

Mickey is survived by his loving wife, Billie Vardaman; Children, Jamie Vardaman (Michelle) of Summerdale, AL, Crystal Vardaman of Tupelo, MS, Jessica Clanton (Matthew) of Greenville, MS, John B. Allen (Haley) of Cleveland, Colby Allen of Hollandale, MS; Brother, Mike Vardaman of Alabama; Sister, Melinda Miller of Leland, MS; Grandchildren, Joel Vardaman of Alabama, Erin Vardaman, Elisa Vardaman of Tupelo, MS, Anthony Vardaman of Tupelo, MS, Emma Clanton of Greenville, MS, Madeleine Clanton of Greenville, MS. Mickey also leaves a host of nieces and nephews to mourn his loss.

Mickey was the owner/operator of Mickey's Bait shop for the past four years. Prior to that he worked for Davis Tire Service for 17 years and Hollowell Furniture for 30 years. He loved to catch fish but he would not eat them. Mickey loved to visit aquariums in various locations. Drag racing was also one of his passions. His canine friend was freckles and he named his race car fruit loops. Family and friends were his heart. Mickey was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Greenville.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Jimmy Utz

Jimmy Utz, age 81, of Boyle, Mississippi, passed away Friday, October 23, 2026, at his home in Boyle.

Jimmy was born April 16, 1945, in Lyon, Mississippi, to Benjamin Franklin Utz and Aggie Redden Utz.

Jimmy worked at Douglas & Lomason for many years and also owned and operated Sky King's Lounge and VJ's Snoballs. He was an entrepreneur in every sense of the word.

Jimmy was the life of the party. He enjoyed making people laugh and was always up to no good (playing jokes). His family and friends were his life. He was also a Mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Aggie Utz, wife, Theresa Tatum Utz, son, Jimmy Utz, Jr, Preston Jimmy Utz, daughters, LaDena Utz O'bryant, Margaret Utz, and 11 siblings.

Jimmy is survived by his daughters, Tara Utz Steele (Bryant) of Boyle, MS, and Rachael Utz Foster (Bobby) of Boyle, MS, brother Freddie Utz (Bertha) of Cleveland, MS, Grandchildren, Riley Edington, Presley Utz, Maddie Foster Cresswell (Layne), Preston Kasch Utz, Anna Chloe Foster, and Peyton Claire Fleming, and great-grandchildren, Maddox, Blakeley, and William David.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Linn Methodist Church Cemetery. Brother George McCain will officiate the service.

Pallbearers are Jonathan Vance, Layne Cresswell, Kasch Utz, Henry Mosco, Chet Norton, and Ernie Seal. Honorary pallbearer is Murry Roark.

Danridge Brown Taylor

Danridge Brown Taylor, 80, of Milton, Florida, died at his home on October 17, 2026.

Danridge was born on June 12, 1946, in Litton, Mississippi, to Albert Taylor and Olma Lee Brown Taylor. He attended Shaw High School. Mr. Taylor retired from the United States Army, where he earned the rank of Sergeant First Class. After leaving the military, he worked as a welder for Sieman's. His children were his life.

Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Olma Lee Taylor. He is survived by his children, Danridge Brown Marble of Milton, FL, and Albert Marble of Slidell, LA, two sisters, Nelda Barlow of Clinton, MS, and Geneva Taylor of Cleveland, MS, 7 grandchildren, 5 grandsons,Tanner, Will, Jackson, Logan and Hudson Marble, 2 granddaughters Mia Marble and Amanda Hamilton. He also leaves 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends to cherish his memory.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cleveland Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service will follow at Shaw Cemetery in Shaw, Mississippi. Reverend Butch Nowlin will officiate the services.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Tanner Marble, Will Marble, Jackson Marble, Logan Marble, Hudson Marble, and Kenneth Taylor, Jr.

Billie Jean Allegrezza

Billie Jean Tubbs Sherron Allegrezza, aged 93, of Southaven, MS, formerly of Cleveland, MS, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2026, at the Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven, MS.

Born on June 8, 1933, in Monticello, AR, to Carl Thomas Tubbs and Viola Ellis Tubbs, Billie Jean moved with her family to Cleveland in 1945. She attended Cleveland Schools, building a strong foundation in the community she loved. In 1992, she married Johnny Allegrezza, having been previously married to the late Marcus S. Sherron. Her career at Baxter Laboratories spanned 27 years, where she was dedicated in roles as an inspector and worked in the lab and receiving.

Billie Jean was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, cherishing her family deeply. Her passion for gardening lasted well into her 90s, where she found joy and peace in nature. A long-time member of Morrison Chapel Baptist Church, her faith and church family were central to her life, and she valued each member dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved spouses Johnny Allegrezza and Marcus S. Sherron, daughter Patricia Alford, son-in-law Jimmy Alford, and siblings Betty Jo Hopper, Carl Tubbs Jr., Wayne Tubbs, Mayo Tubbs, Ernie Tubbs, and Danny Tubbs.

Billie Jean leaves behind a loving legacy through her children: Marcus Wayne Sherron (Kay), Carla Sherron Gardella (Gary), and Tony Scott Sherron; grandchildren James Alford (Jodie), Brian Alford (Gracie), Jake Alford (Nikki), Jeanna Nichols (Tom), Kristen Sears (Billy), Justen Sherron (Lindsey), Jake Gardella (Cayla), Shane Gardella, Trey Henderson (Taylor), and great-grandchildren Jack Sears, Sam Sears, Grey Nichols, Asher Nichols, Grant Alford, Chapman Alford, Nellie Beth Sherron, Silas Sherron, Gemma Gardella, Julianna Alford, Brayden Alford, McKailynn Alford, Myleigh Alford, James Christopher Alford, Lindsey Wisniewski, and Ryan Alford.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Morrison Chapel Baptist Church, followed by a Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at North Cleveland Cemetery, with Rev. John Thomas officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Jake Alford, Justen Sherron, Jake Gardella, Shane Gardella, Brian Alford, James Alford. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Sears, Tom Nichols, and Gary Gardella.

Susan Earlene Tartt

Susan Earlene Prewitt Tartt, aged 70, of Batesville, Mississippi, departed this world on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Baptist Hospital in Oxford, Mississippi.

Born on March 27, 1956, in Cleveland, Mississippi, Earlene was the beloved daughter of Aubrey "Shorty" Prewitt and Idabelle Griffin Prewitt. She cherished her Cleveland roots, flourishing in the community where she graduated from Cleveland High School. Earlene's vibrant spirit was evident in her love for family gatherings, culinary creations, joyful shopping adventures, and her undeniable ability to be the life of the party. Laughter and warmth defined her presence.

Earlene's greatest delight was found in the company of her cherished children, grandchildren, and siblings. Her strength shone brightly as she triumphed over cancer twice, a testament to her resilience.

She is predeceased by her parents and siblings Kenneth "Butch" Prewitt, Jimmy Prewitt, and Beverly Sue Prewitt Atkins. Her legacy endures through her four devoted children: Katherine Homes (David) of Doddsville, Mississippi; Terrie McKnight (Tim) of Cleveland, Mississippi; Tina Johnson of Batesville, Mississippi; and Jason Prewitt (Kayla) of Charleston, Mississippi and a brother William Donald Prewitt of Melvina, Mississippi, Earlene's nine grandchildren, Mitchell Harris, Nicholas Holmes, Paxton McKnight, Paige McKnight, Preslynn McKnight, Felicia Smith, Emily Johnson, John Michael Prewitt, and Carlisle Jess Prewitt, also hold her memory dear.

A graveside service celebrating Earlene's life will be held on Monday, September 7, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Linn Baptist Church Cemetery in Linn, Mississippi.

Dorothy Ann Nassar

Dorothy Ann Tackett Nassar age 84 of Merigold, MS passed away Thursday September 3, 2026 at her home.

Visitation will be held 1:00 P M until 2:00 PM Tuesday September 8, 2026 at Cleveland Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will follow in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Bob Hill will officiate the service.

Born April 26, 1942 in Lonoke AR to Vernie and Opal Tackett. Moved to Mississippi at age 2 and grew up on a farm in Quitman county just outside of Clarksdale. Chopped and picked cotton while at home. Loved all kinds of sports, especially basketball, which she excelled at. Her older brother Roy worked with her on her basketball skills and she played for Lambert High School.

Married Billy Nassar on November 11, 1960. She worked as a bank teller for Bank of Shelby, Sunburst Bank and Trustmark in Leland. She loved to cook, work in the yard, and troll for crappie on the pontoon boat at Enid Reservoir.

She is preceded in death by her husband Billy Nassar, and son Jeff Nassar, two sisters, Ashia and Johnnie Faye, and a brother Danny.

She is survived by her son Dean (Nancy), David, and grandson Brandon (Megan). Her brother Donald (Betty), her brother Roy (Faye), and sister Sue and sister in law, Rachel Tackett. A daughter in law Denise Nassar and her sons Dray and Dexter. Also a host of nieces and nephews.

Dorothy wanted her service to be a celebration of her life, not a solemn affair.

Special thanks to her son David for the special care for the past eight months of her illness. Special thanks to Heart of Hospice for their special care during her final time.

Laverne Wolfe

Laverne Boyd Wolfe left this earthly life on August 30, 2026, just three months before her 100th birthday, and was reunited in Heaven with family and friends who have gone before her, all the while praising her Lord and Savior. Laverne was born on December 3, 1926, to Herman Boyd and Dollie Warren Boyd in Boyle, Mississippi, where she spent her formative and school years. In 1956, following the death of her first husband, Curtis Doyle, in 1954, she married Hayden Wolfe. They spent 43 years together in Cleveland, Mississippi, until his death in 1999.

First and foremost, Laverne was a godly, dependable, faithful servant of the Lord and diligent prayer warrior. She loved to read, especially her Bible. A lover of all people and a friend to whoever she met, Laverne was an active supporter of God's work through the years at Boyle Baptist Church, First Assembly of God in Cleveland, Brandon Church of God, ChristWay Church of God in Flowood, and Pelham Church of God in Pelham, Alabama. Laverne invited many a person to church, carried other children as well as her own to church, taught Sunday school, participated in women's and senior adult ministries and worked in various positions within her church home including the nursery.

Caring for children was Laverne's calling. How she loved it! After working on the line at Baxter Labs in Cleveland and owning and running Wolfe's Grocery in Renova, Laverne loved on countless children for over 25 years, first in a daycare in her home before acquiring Kiddyville Nursery School, providing a much-needed service to families in Cleveland. She was "MawMaw" to them just as she was to her own grandchildren. She lived by example instilling Christian principles in those children entrusted to her care.

Family was very important to Laverne. They describe her as loving, caring, kindhearted, generous, energetic, hardworking, fun-loving, helpful, forgiving, and wise. A social butterfly, she loved to entertain family and friends. She truly had the God-given gift of hospitality and had a way of making everyone comfortable in her presence. Laverne loved to decorate her home for the various seasons and holidays, perhaps a carryover from her daycare days. There was always room at her table. She loved her sweets, baking them and consuming them. Playing games like Phase 10 and Mexican Train Dominoes was a must whenever grandchildren or friends were around. "Go" should have been her middle name. She loved to travel, especially with her sisters, attend all church related functions, and just shop. 99 years of blessings did she bestow on everyone who knew her.

Laverne was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Dollie Boyd; brothers, Haywood Boyd, James Boyd, and William Boyd; sisters, Ruth Boyd Wilburn and Sarah Boyd Dumas; husbands, Curtis Doyle (1944-1954) and Hayden Wolfe (1956-1999); step-daughter, Billie Wolfe Coleman, step-son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Maxine Wolfe; step-grandchildren, Allison Wolfe Wilder and Phil Wolfe.

Laverne is survived by her children, Brenda Doyle Coleman (Cliff) and Ronald Curtis Doyle (Rebecca); sisters, Louise Boyd Garrett and Barbara Boyd Rayburn; grandchildren, Sonya Rogers Hammonds (Eddie Burnell), Jeff Rogers, Jessica Doyle Lee (Shannon), Leah Doyle Bilz (Tommy), Bethany Doyle Stringer (Jeremy), and Sherri Johnson Roark (Tom); 16 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2026 from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 3:00 PM in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will take place in the New Cleveland Cemetery. Rev. Don Tucker and Rev. Bob Wilburn will officiate the services.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Bilz, Shannon Lee, Jeremy Stringer, Todd Hudson, Braeden Lee, Nicholas Lee, Austin Hammonds, Grayson Rogers and Colton Hudson.

The family would like to thank the staff of Columbiana Health and Rehabilitation and Affinity Hospice for their assistance during this difficult time.

Johnny Mac Ware

Johnny Mac Ware, age 69, of Cleveland, MS, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the North Sunflower Hospital in Ruleville, MS.

Born on August 16, 1957, to Burtis and Gladys White Ware in Cleveland, MS, Johnny spent his life devoted to the water as a commercial fisherman and co-owner of the Ware's Bait Shop with his parents. He cherished fishing, football, NASCAR, old westerns, and caring for his treasured cat. Although he enjoyed solitude, Johnny was dearly loved by his family and friends who will miss him deeply.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Paul, Bobby, Frankie, and Ricky Ware. He is survived by his sister, Betty Ware Boyd and her husband Wallace and sister-in-law, Vera Ware along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, August 31, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Lehrton Cemetery in Ruleville, MS, officiated by Reverend Johnathan Glover.

The pallbearers for the service will be Freddie Ware, Jr., Bobby Ware, Jr., Jeremy Ware, Robert Joe Ware, and Jared Moseley.

Earl D***s

Earl D***s, 80, of Cleveland, MS, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Delta Health and Rehabilitation. Born on May 25, 1946, in Quitman County, MS, to James Andrew D***s and Nettie Thacker D***s, Earl grew up in Quitman County before moving to Cleveland in the 1970s.

He dedicated 30 years to Circle H Farms, embracing a love for work, the outdoors, and fishing. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, James Andrew D***s & Nettie Thacker D***s; his sister Pearl Fuller, and his brother Billy Ray D***s.

He is survived by his brothers William D***s of Tunica, MS, Danny D***s (Janice) of Cleveland, Eugene D***s (Judy) of Brookhaven, MS, his sister Joann Ogea (Bill Scruggs) of Yellville, AR, and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Quitman County.
