DSAM seeks to break down barriers and focus on promoting advocacy for people with Down syndrome. Quality educational programs, a stimulating home environment, good health care, and positive support from family, friends, and the community enable people with Down syndrome to lead fulfilling and productive lives.

We are so proud of Caregiver Kimberly Higdon, out of our Peoria, IL, location! They have been nominated for the Home Care Association of America 2026 Caregiver of the Year Award, which recognizes exceptional caregivers across the country who provide outstanding care at home.

Kim puts the care into caregiving. From anticipating her clients’ needs, to communicating with dignity and respect, she gains their trust allowing them to fully trust her. Kim adjusts her schedule to accommodate her clients’ needs and understands the value of her work and ability to impact their lives and therefore she gives her all in every aspect of her job.

Families have shared that Kim has increased their loved one’s quality of life, created excitement that they had not seen in them in a long time, and have been able to encourage them to eat when others could not – which directly improved their health and overall wellbeing. Families have shared that Kim has exceeded all expectations and are just blown away at her ability to connect, anticipate, create excitement, and create an overall sense of security, resulting in a better mindset for their loved one. Kim has directly improved her clients’ mental health by providing hope, trust, and security.

Our All Ways Caring HomeCare - Idaho team, Executive Director for Southern/Eastern Idaho Lindsey Hendricks and Branch Manager Gemma Sandoval, showed up for their Veterans at the Treasure Valley Stand Down Veteran Event hosted last month. They showed up representing All Ways Caring and made sure to inform Veterans about services they are entitled to for serving our country.

Case managers are healthcare professionals who serve as patient advocates, supporting, guiding, and coordinating care for patients, families, and caregivers as they navigate their health and wellness journeys. They serve as the center of communication, connecting individuals/caregivers with members of the healthcare team and community to impact acute and chronic disease management and improve population health.

So, let's recognize the invaluable work of case managers and those that support the case management community in improving health outcomes!

The Home Care Association of America (HCAOA) announced their five finalists and 16 seminfinalists for the 2026 Caregiver of the Year Award, including two of our very own Caregivers for the Northern Tier Region, Alisha Broenneke from Lewiston, ID, and Jeremiah Gilfoy from Silverdale, WA.

Today, we want to highlight Caregiver Alisha Broenneke!

Alisha’s impact on her clients and their families is unmatched. Her most recent client suffers from dementia, and the client knows that when Alisha is there, she is safe, and everything is going to be okay. Alisha helps her client with baking cookies as it’s always been a passion for her. The joy she brings to her current client has brought vitality to one who was once afraid of going out of her own home. She regularly goes places with Alisha, exploring the world and visiting the office to share the freshly baked cookies. She is a fierce champion and protector if she feels her client’s needs are not being properly met.

Her compassion for her clients is evident in the way she cares for them, protects them, and champions them. And her respect for them goes beyond the basic respect of a caregiver for her client – she sympathizes with them, allows them to be who they are, to live their lives in a way that makes them feel safe, comfortable and, of course, happy in their own home.
