Lung cancer screening is a vital preventive measure, particularly for individuals at high risk, such as long-term smokers or those with a significant history of to***co use. Screening typically involves a low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) scan, which can detect abnormalities in the lungs that may not be visible on standard X-rays. Early detection through such scans can be lifesaving, as it allows for the diagnosis of lung cancer at an earlier and more treatable stage. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends annual screening for lung cancer with LDCT in adults aged 50 to 80 years who have a 20 pack-year smoking history (one pack per day for 20 years) and currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years.
