A healthy placenta helps support a healthy pregnancy.

Placental complications can affect how much oxygen and nutrients reach a baby, which is why monitoring your baby’s movements matters. Babies often respond to changes in their environment before tests can detect a problem.

Stillbirth prevention starts with awareness — awareness of movement patterns, maternal warning signs, and the importance of trusting your instincts when something feels different.

Check out our friends over at Measure the Placenta for placenta resources and research.

There are an average of 745 stillbirths in Ohio each year.

In 2018 the Count the Kicks program expanded into Ohio through a partnership with the Ohio Department of Health. UnitedHealthcare has been a significant partner in improving birth outcomes with us in Ohio since 2022.

Since our program expanded to Ohio, we have heard from five Ohio families who credit Count the Kicks with helping their baby have a safe arrival! We are actively working to save more lives in Ohio, with the ultimate goal of helping communities drive down the stillbirth rate.

Today is World Preeclampsia Day, and we want to take a moment to recognize the impact this condition has on expectant mothers and their babies.

Preeclampsia is a serious pregnancy complication that affects thousands of women every year. A change in a baby's movements can be the first or only indication there may be an issue with a pregnancy (like preeclampsia) and is an indication that both mom and baby should be checked by a healthcare professional right away.

Women most at risk for severe maternal health outcomes may also be at higher risk for stillbirth based on pre-existing or demographic characteristics and conditions related to their stillbirth, such as .

By being aware of the warning signs and symptoms, and seeking medical attention promptly, we can reduce the risk of adverse outcomes.

A textbook perfect pregnancy ended in stillbirth. It didn’t have to be that way.

The BUMP Act will help to equip expectant parents with the education they need to help ensure they have a positive birth outcome.
