Troy underwent a right hip arthroscopy, PAO, and removal of hardware from the left hip and asked to keep the screws after surgery. 🔩

So, is this allowed? In many cases, yes. Once surgical hardware is removed and properly sterilized, patients can request to keep it, depending on hospital policies and local regulations.

Orthopedic hardware (such as screws and plates) helps stabilize bones during healing and, in some cases, is later removed.

Every case is different. This is just one example of how personalized care can extend even beyond the operating room.

Part 2 of this surgical procedure is an open operation during which the surgeon performs precise bone cuts, known as osteotomies. These cuts are made with the intention of rotating the hip socket into a more optimal position.

This repositioning is crucial because it aims to improve coverage of the femoral head, the rounded top of the thigh bone that fits into the hip socket.

By enhancing this coverage, the procedure seeks to stabilize the joint, potentially reducing pain and improving overall function and mobility.

Here, Robert Kollmorgen, DO, FAAS, FAOBOS, demonstrates the level of intricate, meticulous care required to restore stability, function, and long-term joint health.

Every movement is intentional. Every detail matters.

Stay tuned for the next phase.

Did you get inspired by the Winter Olympics and attempt a move you saw on TV?

Winter sports are all within reach of the Central Valley, so it’s understandable to want to try a new technique you’ve seen.

But what should you do if you need immediate treatment for a winter sports injury that isn’t an emergency? Follow the RICE method.

Taking immediate action is important to prevent further pain and start the healing process. If the injury persists or worsens over time, it’s crucial to consult an orthopaedic provider.
