It was the kind of Storm that made you feel like something important was coming… The thunder was roaring, and the lightning was opening the sky… And her contractions started almost as an echo to the storm.

Her home is tucked between the trees, and it was like a movie scene inside their home, witnessing the storm. Her and her husband were so calm and poised as labor came on.

Mama was still a bit early in her labor. This brought relief to Alaina, she was with me and stated she wasn’t quite ready to be a Birth Assistant😂 so I ran home to drop Alaina off, then came back as the sky darkened, and the storm faded…

It was the perfect dance. I arrived back at their home, got a round of vitals and then tucked downstairs. They had all they needed to ride the waves of this labor. A peaceful state of mind and each other.

With one of the heart tone checks, I could tell contractions were intensifying and a bit closer together. I called in my friend. Jessica Borges and she started the journey to come join us.

Mama slipped in the tub and handled each transition contraction with breath and movement. She is truly amazing.

When pushing came, it came with a surprising intensity. It is so hard not to stay in a bargaining mindset when this comes on. You truly wish you could be anywhere else, doing ANYTHING else, but you have to settle with the fact you are here. And this work is bringing your baby. And that is exactly what she did. With one contraction using some counter pressure, I could feel babies head come down on her perineum. I checked for a cord, and instead found a hand tucked tightly against baby’s shoulder. This made for a very tight squeeze. And Mama was pushing ever so powerfully. But there was not any movement down. So, with some maneuvering to help with rotation, we found the space needed to help the shoulder and an arm come. Mama continued to bear down and with this, her sweet baby was here.

Scarlet Elizabeth Marie came on May 29, 2026 at 2:08 a.m. She weighed 7 # 13 oz. and stood 22” tall. She gave us a good cry, so we all knew she was strong and well. Then she nuzzled against Mama’s chest, and became quiet and content. She is a peaceful little being and Mom is falling in love, in her protected postpartum cocoon🤍

Doing this with you again is an absolute honor. You are an incredible mother! And I love you and your family deeply🤍

I misunderstood! This mama does want her story shared🤍

Adult sleepovers… They truly are some of my favorite moments in Midwifery. We had such a good time hanging out and talking through the night.🤍

This Mama‘s waters had broken. And when it was clear contractions were not going to start on their own, I came over to help encourage. A couple of my tricks started some contractions, but then they would fizzle out.

She rested, and when she woke up in the morning, there was no change in dilation. Her cervix was not in a position or dilation where my tricks would continue to work. So we called on our friends at KH to help.

This mom had a hospital transport with her previous midwife. And she knew exactly what she did not want this time around. And man, oh man, did she do a beautiful job of navigating her care. She politely and assertively declined the choices that were not right for her and her baby and was very much in control of how things went. She was also supported by the most fantastic nurses who honored her in every turn of the road.

She opted for an epidural and Pitocin and continued to ride the turns of this labor well. Things were moving slowly, and after 13 hours in the hospital, the nurse checked her. Some progress! She was now 4.5cm… I encouraged her that after 5cm, things tend to move much faster. We got her set up in an open-pelvis side-lying position and encouraged rest. But 18 mins later, I noticed some dips and rebounds in heart tones that looked consistent with pushing. I adjusted the monitor and asked if she was feeling any pressure in her bum. She said no. I stayed close to monitor heart tones. She then said, “I think my vagina’s opening up” I pulled the sheet back and there was a baby head emerging! After 38 hours of patient laboring, she then went from 4.5cm to baby coming in 20 mins! Wowee! I tried to grab gloves, but things happened so quickly. We pressed the call button to have the staff come and as they entered the room, baby boy eased into my hands and up to mama’s chest🤍 Dr. Gregory came for the placenta and we all couldn’t believe what just happened! I mean, we could, birth is well… birth… always exciting🤍

She was beaming! She looked like a queen holding her baby. It was a long journey, and she did it! So so well🤍

Baby Louis Augustine was born May 4th @ 2:04am weighing 7 # 1oz and standing 19” tall. He joins two older siblings and everyone is in love. In fact, I’m pretty sure big sister believes he is hers🤍

This woman is like a warm hug. She is a caregiver through and through. She’s the first one to sign up for a meal train, to attend family and friends’, births, and she gives the best uplifting compliments. She truly is the best.

It is such a gift to get to care for a woman who cares so much for everyone else. Sometimes I wish that caregiver card guaranteed things would go exactly as hoped. But pregnancy in Birth are supposed to be unpredictable. Sometimes I wish they weren’t. But that is the truth.

Late in pregnancy Mama started getting chronic headaches. She did some things nutritionally to help balance her system, and it seemed like things were resolving. But then the headaches came back, and the blood pressure started creeping up. And we know for pregnancies like this, the hospital is the best place to be.

We initially went in for assessment. It was deemed necessary to have her baby in the hospital. But this Mama knew, she needed a couple more days to wrap her head around an induction. So she went home made peace with the change in her birth story and came back to the hospital ready to have her baby.

This was a planned VBAC. And there were some big statistic talks that proved pretty daunting. “ 27% chance of success rate.” was the quote that seemed to stick the most. So we talked extensively about her individual body and how sometimes that differs from statistics. She made the decision to go forward with the VBAC.

She was ready for Pitocin to start and get the ball rolling on labor. This took some time, and quite a bit of Pitocin. And when it was time, her husband, mother, sister and I were there to support her as things progressed. She was truly amazing. It was intense, and when things picked up, they picked up quickly. But she did it. She had her successful vaginal delivery. Surrounded by love, she welcomed her sweet girl.

Olivia Lourdes was born April 26, 2026 @ 4:01am. She weighed 6 lbs. 14 oz. and was 19.25” inches tall.

She is so beautiful and feminine, and her mama is falling deeply in love.

Serving your family is a highlight in my life. Thank you for letting me be your Midwife. And thank you for all the love you and your family have given me over all these years. You 100% had your VBAC. And I am so so proud of you 🤍

What a wild ride life is.
This mama had twins at a young age and her love journey had changed over the years. Recently her true love re-entered her life and was ready to step in for these now teenage girls. Unexpectedly, it was decided to have a new little baby to share and spread this rekindled love. Vows were exchanged. And plans were made to welcome this sweet girl.

One thing mama knew, this time would be different. having twins at a young age came with a lot of people telling her what to do. She felt small. She felt like she had no voice. Life and experience taught her how wrong that was. She was going to have her baby her way this time.

But again with that wild ride… After seeing a physician in this pregnancy, she was told Hospital birth would be the best option for this baby’s entry. This was heartbreaking. And feelings from her prior experience started creeping in… Being told how she could have this baby was bringing up many feelings. But in the end, she decided she would now have her baby in the hospital, her way. She continued to seek prenatal care from me as a supplement to her prenatal care with the Kootenai Midwives. She was well-educated and ready for this birth.

Labor started with waters breaking. Contractions seemed like they were ramping up. So as her Doula, encouraged her to head in and get settled in her nest at the hospital. And then contractions stopped. We did everything to get contractions going… We circled those halls like it was the Indy 500. We did ni**le stim, we did uterine stim, we did position changes and the contractions would start, then they would then resolve. After many, many, many hours of trying. Mama decided it was time for a little help. She opted for Pitocin and it literally took a whiff to get her contractions going… Contractions were very intense and she requested to get into the tub. As soon as she got into the tub, the noises changed… the amazing Faith Krull, reached in for a quick check as mom started pushing her baby out. Faith directed baby right into mom‘s hands and she pulled her right up to her chest.

She did it. And though the story looked a bit different than she anticipated. She made all the calls, she did all the things, and now her little love was in her arms.

Sweet Iris Jade was born April 29th, 2026 @ 12:43am she weighed 6 # 7oz and stood 19.25” tall. She is the apple of everyone’s eye! Especially, her big sisters’.

Oh mama! Proud doesn’t scratch the surface. You are a warriorous. You are strong as a mother and your babies are so lucky to call you mom. I hope you continue on this path of trusting yourself and always know, there is nothing more reliable than your mama intuition🤍

You are a woman of strength.
As a person, a friend, a sister, a daughter, a wife and especially as a mother. You exude strength.

You are so ready to accept challenges. To adjust, and overcome. I truly believe this is why peace seems to be a leading theme in your life.

Getting to do this with you again was such an honor. Just as with your first, you entered labor protecting your peace. You slipped into labor land beautifully, and rode each wave so gracefully.

You took moments with your partner, your mother, your sister, you’re amazing Doula Bookamer Birth Services and when it was time, you stepped into the Birth tub. It wasn’t long before you worked your way through transition and were on to pushing. Working so well with these incredibly strong contractions, you eased your baby right out into your own, and your husband’s hands. It was magical ✨

The postpartum contractions started right away, and they were doozies. She stated later that the postpartum contractions were 10x harder than the labor contractions. The pain was so intense that it brought on vomiting. We did our best to manage the pain with homeopathics, ibuprofen, a bath, IV therapy, but nothing could quite take that edge off, or stay down. And because the vomiting had not resolved, we knew it was time for some extra tools.

The hospital is not a place she wanted to go. In fact, she had only ever had experiences that were hard in a hospital. But when she knew it was time to go, she surrendered to what needed to happen. She accepted care so beautifully and the amazing nurses and doctors at KH were fantastic. They ruled out any problems and were able to give IV medications for nausea and pain. This was the trick. Vomiting finally stopped and she was able to go home and re-enter her peaceful nest.

She took this in such a beautiful stride. She was so grateful for a wonderful experience at the hospital. She could recognize it brought healing and trust that if she ever needed medical care in the future, that she was safe.

She re-entered her postpartum oasis ready to nurse, snuggle and rest.

Her sweet baby boy did so fantastic while he waited for Mama. Grandma was there to keep him cared for while mom took her little detour. And when she got home, he was ready to start their sweet journey together.

Mr. Odin Ford was born April 19th 2026. He was 8 # 12oz and stood 22” tall.

He received every bit of Mama’s peace. And remains the chillest little man that just loves his mama.

Endlessly thankful to be your Midwife. So grateful for these walks we’ve had.🤍

Thank you to Emily Tenney, & for making up the team🤍
