Your psoas is a deep core muscle that quietly does a lot of work, it connects your spine to your thighs and helps you stand tall, walk smoothly, and keep your hips feeling stable. Over time, lack of movement makes the muscle adapt by becoming tight, weak, and overactive. This imbalance frequently pulls the pelvis forward, resulting in mechanical lower back pain, hip tightness, and limited mobility.
At Inland Northwest Spine, we like to think of it as your body asking for a little “reset” rather than just more pushing through.
A few gentle ways to help your psoas unwind:
• A supported half-kneeling hip flexor stretch (no forcing, just ease into it)
• Lying back and letting your hips fully relax
• Slow breathing—like, actually slow it down while you stretch
• Short movement breaks during the day so things don’t lock up
Think gentle, steady, and consistent, not intense or aggressive. Your body responds way better to calm than force.
If that tight, “always there” feeling keeps coming back, Inland Northwest Spine can help figure out what’s really driving it and get you moving better again.for more information, go to: https://health.clevelandclinic.org/psoas-stretch-guide-for-psoas-release
