Hospice of North Idaho The communityโ€™s only local nonprofit hospice serving Kootenai, Shoshone, Benewah and South Bonner counties since 1981.

We are the community's nonprofit Hospice, providing end-of-life care and support for over 40 years. We serve Kootenai, Shoshone, Benewah, and South Bonner counties. We also have the only hospice inpatient unit, The Schneidmiller House, in Idaho. With a 6-acre campus in Coeur d'Alene, a Community Services Building, and a Hospice Thrift Store in Post Falls, we provide comfort, education, and support for the North Idaho community.

Thanks to the generosity of a local community member, our hospice Spiritual Care Coordinator, Rev. Jennifer Hackenbruch, had the opportunity to attend Dr. Alan Wolfeltโ€™s "Support Group Facilitator Training" earlier this month.

This is a specialized professional development training offered through the Center for Loss & Life Transition that teaches participants how to lead compassionate bereavement support groups.

"I was humbled by this training. There were moments of validation that reminded me I am on the right path when it comes to supporting those who are grieving. Some moments reminded me just how much more there is to learn and understand about grief and the many ways it can affect each person. In the end, we are walking alongside our patients and families through their individual experiences of grief. We meet them where they are on their own journey." ๐Ÿ’™

"3Cs donates over $135,000 to local causes"

On behalf of Hospice of North Idaho, our Social Worker, Rebecca, was honored to accept a donation that will help cover a large portion of the costs for our annual Camp Kaniksu kidsโ€™ grief camp. ๐Ÿ•๏ธ

Because of donations like this, grieving youth in our community can attend camp and receive much-needed grief support at no cost.

A big congrats to the many local nonprofits who were also awarded for the amazing work in our area. A special thank you to the 3Cs Kootenai County for believing in the healing power of community. ๐Ÿ’™โœจ

I served as a Volunteer in the south with a hospice for 3 years and thoroughly loved it. When I saw the job announcement at HONI become available, I knew it was time to apply for this unique opportunity.

I attended the University of Hawaii, where I studied Investigative Social Work, and worked with children in Family Court as they testified. I then furthered my studies in Gerontology at the University of Washington. I have worked as a Case Manager in northern Florida as well as a Program Facilitator for Respite day programs for individuals with Alzheimer's and Dementia in South Carolina.

Being part of the North Idaho community is important to me. I am originally from the Northwest, and being able to see and smell pine trees, kayak on the local waters, and be closer to family and friends is important.

Having experienced the loss of many family members and friends, I felt I had a small insight into the grief others may be experiencing. When my husband and I moved from Arkansas to Idaho, I chose to make a career change from hospital nursing to hospice care so I could serve patients where they live.

My faith and the belief that this work is my calling. Hospice care can be challenging, but the kindness and support I've found at HONI have remained constant throughout the years. The culture here encourages us to care for one another, and that support makes all the difference. I also love encouraging others, and that's something truly valued at HONI.

As a shy child who moved often, I remember how much it meant when someone reached out and welcomed me. One simple act of kindness in high school completely changed my experience. That memory has stayed with me, and today I strive to offer that same sense of comfort and belonging to patients and families facing one of life's most difficult journeys.

When I'm off work, I focus on spending time with my husband of nearly 47 years and the rest of my family. I enjoy baking, gardening, biking, and painting, but my favorite hobby is encouraging others. Sometimes a kind word or a hug can make all the difference. I truly believe we rise best by lifting up others.
