Anthony Perrotti’s path to healthcare leadership was shaped in environments where performance wasn’t optional, it was critical. From leading expeditions with Outward Bound to training military members as a SERE instructor, he learned that when conditions get tough, teams rely on what they’ve practiced together.

Today, as Director of Culture & Learning at Kootenai Health, Anthony brings that same mindset to healthcare. His work focuses on helping leaders create consistency, strengthen teamwork, and build a culture that shows up when it matters most for our teams and our patients.

Thanks to support from the Kootenai Health Foundation and its donors, Kootenai Health Rehabilitation Services is now using the Xcite2 Integrated FES device, an advanced rehabilitation system designed to help patients reconnect with muscles affected by neurological illness or injury. Physical therapist Jenelle O’Donoghue works with patient Jim Brannon during a stroke rehabilitation session using the Xcite2, helping stimulate muscle activity and support the rebuilding of connections between the brain and body.

Using functional electrical stimulation, the system delivers carefully timed pulses that activate specific nerves and muscles. This allows therapists to guide real, task-based movements such as reaching, grasping, stepping, and transitioning from sitting to standing. For patients recovering from conditions such as stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, or multiple sclerosis, practicing these movements can help strengthen muscles, improve mobility, and support the brain and body as they relearn how to work together.

The addition of the Xcite2 expands access to advanced rehabilitation care in North Idaho so more patients can receive specialized therapy close to home.

One year ago, Dana Farnes was nearly killed after being stabbed while trying to intervene in a knife fight at a group home for adults with special needs. After suffering life-threatening injuries, Dana was cared for by first responders, emergency responders, flight crews, physicians, surgeons, nurses, and countless healthcare professionals who worked together to save his life.

Dana returned to Kootenai Health to personally thank many of the people who cared for him during those critical moments.

“You guys are the true heroes here,” Dana shared.

To every first responder, flight crew, physician, nurse, and healthcare professional who played a role in Dana’s care, thank you for the compassion, teamwork, and dedication you bring to our community every day. And thank you, Dana, for reminding us of the lasting impact those acts of care can have. ❤️
