Cervical fusion stabilizes the segment it fuses. It does not address what happens above and below it.
After a fusion, the rest of the spine has to compensate. The vertebrae directly adjacent take on more load. Soft tissue patterns shift. The nervous system adapts to a new mechanical reality. And for many patients, that’s where the lingering numbness, tingling, and pain come from — not from the fusion site itself, but from everything that’s now working harder.
Think of it like a structural beam. Reinforce one section, and the load redistributes to whatever is adjacent. Without addressing those adjacent areas, they get overworked and start to fail in their own way.
Post-fusion chiropractic care isn’t about adjusting the fused segment. It’s about evaluating and supporting the structures that are now carrying the additional load — and assessing how the entire nervous system is functioning around it.
Our patient shares his experience in this video. If you’ve had a cervical fusion and the symptoms haven’t fully resolved, structural evaluation is worth the conversation. Link in bio.
