Registration for CYA 2026-2027 is officially OPEN! 🎉

CYA is a youth leadership program that empowers students to make a positive impact in our community while promoting healthy choices and supporting youth mental health. Throughout the year, ambassadors learn about substance use prevention, educate younger students, advocate for healthy decisions, participate in service projects, attend leadership conferences, and help plan events that make Cohasset a healthier place to live.

If you're a student entering grades 7–12 who lives in Cohasset or attends Cohasset Public Schools, we'd love to have you join us this year! Whether you're new to CYA or returning for another year, we hope you'll be part of another exciting year of leadership, learning, and service.

Registration is open through August 31.

Please note that all returning ambassadors must re-register each year.

Registration opens this Saturday! 🎉

The Cohasset Youth Ambassadors program is more than a leadership program—it's an opportunity for students to make a positive impact in their community while growing as leaders, advocates, and role models.

Throughout the year, ambassadors learn about substance use prevention and youth mental health, educate younger students, plan community events, advocate for healthy choices, and develop the confidence and skills to create positive change.

Registration for the 2026–2027 program will be open August 1–31 for students entering grades 7–12 who live in Cohasset or attend Cohasset Public Schools. Please note that all returning ambassadors must re-register each year.

🚗 Summer Safety Tip: Teen Drivers

Summer often means more time with friends, later nights, and more time on the road. Did you know that the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day are the most dangerous for teen drivers? More passengers, distractions, nighttime driving, and impaired driving can all increase risk behind the wheel.

Whether you're heading to the beach, grabbing ice cream, or driving home after spending time with friends, a few simple choices can make all the difference: buckle up, put the phone away, and never drive impaired or ride with someone who is.

Parents, a simple conversation before your teen leaves the house can also make all the difference. Make sure they know they can always call you if they feel unsafe and need a ride home.

The best summer nights end with everyone getting home safe.

Safe Harbor Cohasset Coalition, The Anchor of Hull, and East Coast Recovery Center invite community members to join us for the 9th Annual Candlelight Vigil in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day on Monday, August 31 from 6:30–7:30 PM on Cohasset Common.

Each year, we gather to remember those we have lost, support those who are grieving, and stand alongside individuals and families impacted by substance use.

The evening will feature words of hope, remembrance, and expressions of community strength. All are welcome.

Community members who would like to honor a loved one are invited to submit a photo to be displayed during the vigil. Photos can be submitted through the form on our website or emailed to [email protected].

Before your teen heads out this Fourth of July...

The Fourth of July is a time to celebrate with family and friends, but it can also bring increased opportunities for underage drinking.

Parents and caregivers play one of the biggest roles in helping teens make healthy choices. Before the celebrations begin:

✔️ Set clear expectations about alcohol.
✔️ Know where your teen will be and who they’ll be with.
✔️ Check in throughout the day or evening.
✔️ Remember that your own choices and attitudes around alcohol matter. Teens are always watching and learning from the adults around them.

Research consistently shows that parents have more influence than they often realize. A few minutes of conversation before your teen heads out can make a lasting difference.

🌊 Summer Safety Tip: Heading to Bassing Beach?

Bassing Beach is one of Cohasset's favorite summer destinations, especially during the warmer months. Because it's only accessible by water, emergencies can become serious quickly.

If you're spending time at Bassing or anywhere on the water this summer, remember that alcohol and water are a dangerous combination. Alcohol impairs judgment, coordination, balance, and reaction time, increasing the risk of drowning and other water-related injuries. Combined with heat, sun exposure, changing tides, and a remote location, even small decisions can quickly become emergencies.

Whether you're a parent talking with your teen before they head out or a young person making plans with friends, choosing to stay substance-free around the water is one of the best ways to help ensure everyone gets home safely.
