When I graduated from Chinese medicine school in '06, after 4 years of full time study, my professor, Dr. Hongwei Liu said to me, "Congratulations! You're ready to learn acupuncture!".

I gasped and asked "I'm only ready?! I just studied for 4 years and passed all my exams. I am an acupuncturist!"

He just smirked.

Now 20 years later, after thousands of acupuncture treatments, I understand Dr. Liu. I've learned that mastery is a journey and the embodiment of this ancient wisdom is measured in decades. My practice has gone through an evolution that I understand only in hindsight... intially drawing from learned knowledge, through a period of applied wisdom to what now feels a bit like instinctual intuition. My insights have grown sharper as I've developed a relationship with this medicine and my practice of it.

The “Five Spirits” (Hun, Po, Zhi, Yi, and Shen) describe different aspects of human consciousness, emotion, instinct, and purpose. They’re associated with the Five Elements (water, wood, fire, earth and metal) and the major organ systems (kidneys, liver, heart, spleen, and lungs).

"But I believe in science" is the most common misunderstanding with acupuncture...

It's NOT that Chinese medicine doesn't embrace 'science', it's just that the logic and language we use predates the development of our western scientific paradigm.

Acupuncture is absolutely scientific. In fact, it leans quite heavily on the endocrine system. It's my job to 'translate' your scientific understanding of health and wellness to this ancient Chinese paradigm and then design a treatment using this logic to address your issue.
