We've all heard it, "Sit up straight! Stand up tall!" But did you know that your posture really does matter?
First of all, poor posture can be caused by many things: tight muscles, weak core, improper chairs, incorrect computer/device positioning, bad habits and sometimes just our own lack of trying. But if we don't start trying to correct our posture now, it will only compound and become worse as we age.
When you practice proper posture you may:
-Feel fewer aches and pains
-Protect your joints and muscles
-Free up your lungs for better breathing
-Feel more confident and organized
-Strengthen your "deep" core muscles and back
-Feel overall better about yourself, more poised and self assured
It's not only sitting or standing that we should constantly be reminding ourselves about correct posture but also, when you're sleeping, when you're driving, when you're carrying something (especially your purse or your child), when you're on your phone, and when you're on the computer (where your mouse and keyboard are positioned are important too!)
Some posture tips:
-Get up and move, set reminders to "reset" your posture by rolling your shoulders back, realigning your head and positioning your feet
-Sit in a proper chair that supports your back
-Wear comfortable shoes
-Strengthen your "posture" muscles in your upper back and your core
